(Hope this makes sense, and I hope you like it... ;)) All comments, etc. welcome at sherric@empnet.com * * * * Nick was replacing the microphone when it happened. The bright red corvette came blasting through the intersection, and hit the caddy on the right front fender. The resulting screech of metal on metal was devastating. When the cars came to rest on the corner, Nick leaped out and looked at the damage. "My Caddy!" His anguished voice rang through the night. He turned to the bright red caddy in anger, which died rapidly as he looked at the sobbing figure behind the wheel. Walking over to the young woman with long dark hair, he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?" The young lady looked up, her dark eyes reddened from crying. "I'm so sorry, I don't know how it happened! I was trying to stop and it kept going!" Nick sighed. "That's okay, the cars can be repaired, as long as you are all right, that is all that matters." As the first squad car pulled up, he turned to the officer to begin taking care of the paperwork...... Pulling away from the precinct Nick looked at the Caddy and was dismayed to see how dirty it was. Looking at his partner, he spoke. "I'm going to swing over to that car wash on Yonge Street, and get the Caddy washed." Suiting actions to words, he smoothly turned the car around the next corner and accelerated. Pulling into the car wash, he put the top up, and handed his baby over the the car wash people. Watching the car from the waiting area, he was calmly discussing their current case with his partner when the first sound of trouble struck. *SMASSSSSSSSssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh* Spinning in place, he watched with horror as the carwash mechanism started striking his car over and over. The dents were turning into craters as he began running toward the access doors, yelling "Noooooooooooo!"........... Looking at the paperwork, he shook his head. That particular auto-wrecking yard bothered him with the associated memories it bore. Turning to Schanke, he motioned his partner into the car. "Come on, Schanke. Let's check this out!" Pulling into the junkyard, he parked near a large piece of machinery that, he assumed, turned the cars into the small cubes of metal stacked 20 feet tall to the side of it. They exited the Caddy and went in search of the junkyard owner they were supposed to interview. As they were walking away from the Caddy, he heard a creak, then, the awful noise of metal shifing, then falling. He slowly turned, and realized that the Caddy was completely buried under the cubes. His face paled to whiter than white, as his jaw dropped completely open........ The Caddy was gleaming in the lights, perfect in its glory. The giant hammer descended slowly at first, then faster and faster. "Die, Die, Die" was heard in a giant voice, chanting fairly softly at first. The hammer kept striking the Caddy, over and over. At last, the hammer fell to the surface beside the Caddy, and a giant fishbowl descended upon it. The destruction was nearly complete. The giant howled in laughter as Nick watched helplessly. "At last! I get to destroy the Caddy!!!"..... Shifting slightly, the thrashing figure sleeping on the couch settled slightly, then spun and sat up. His forehead was bloody, and his face was pale. He drew a deep breath. "A dream! It was all a dream!! Thank goodness." He rose from the couch, and, gradually getting his breathing under control, walked to the garage to check on his car. It stood gleaming in the lights from overhead. He walked around it, drawing his hand along its flanks. "Thank goodness, it was all a..." The pleased smile faded to puzzlement as he found a flaw. Leaning close, he looked at it closely. It was the imprint of .... a meat hammer! "...Dream?"
