It's my first time, all comments gratefully received - be nice! ****Permission to Mel to archive to the fanfic site******* A Candle For Remembrance The church lay quiet, the night was still; He flinched before the sacred scene. Standing his ground he summoned his will And entered in, alone, unseen. He stood before the altar rail; Fists clenched in pain, a promise kept- Remembering love condemned to fail. Consumed with grief, the vampire wept. He thought upon the life he'd led, As in the sky the moon did wane. On bended knee he bowed his head, Weighed down by his years of pain. She'd made him promise every year To light a candle in her name And keep her memory bright and clear. He took the candle, lit the flame. He gazed into the candle's light And saw her face reflected there. His cry of anguish rent the night, His heavy load too much to bear. He fled; the church once more was still, The only sign of recent pain A candle, burning bright, until The morning's light subdued the flame. He fled, but knew he would return- He'd made a promise he would keep. And every year a candle would burn; And every year a vampire would weep.
