Date: Wed, 20 Dec 1995 20:19:22 -0600 From: Julie Randolph Subject: Eagle's Eye View ** Oh, I know you guys are excited...*pause* and prepared for yet another strange, experimental, fiction. This is going to be, lemme see from the point of view of a narrator (obviously) who does not know any more about the situation he or she is watching than you do, this person then, is speculating. Once again, this is not necessairly me. OH and P.S. the spelling may be lacking because my arms currently feel like a small pile of mush. ** JCR Eagle's Eye View Julie Randolph I simply do not get these two people. Currently, they are beyond my capacity to understand. Okay, granted, the have their problems...but hey, these things can be worked out...right? Right. Not that I don't have any sympathy...really, it's just that I'm really tired of watching them dance around the issues they both want to talk about and never actually doing anything about it. But, I'm ranting, aren't I and you have no idea what I'm talking about, so (since I'm here anyway and not apt to go anywhere soon) I'll explain the story to you. Take a seat, it's kind of complicated...oh, and I do highly recommend lots of alcohol during this tale, it's a little bizarre, but the moral is true, as true as the day the first human stepped upon this earth...true love lasts forever. Well, I suppose it started about 4 years ago. I'm a police officer, see..I work over at the 96th precinct. Yes, the same one that lost a detective and its captain a couple months ago. I had been working there a long time, long before Schanke or Cohen or even Nick Knight decided to appear on the scene. Did you want a drink? Are you sure? Okay, it's your heart failure. Anyway, I have been there a long time...oh I don't know, 50...60 years or so. Seen captains come and go, seen officers come and go, seen lots of stuff and then he showed up. Why are you staring at me like that? I don't look very old, well my friend, I am a lot older than I at first appear, which is why, in this instance, I was able to shield myself from Nicholas Knight. I don't know what his real name is, frankly I don't actually care, but watching him is something like watching a pure bred race horse...ever seen one...no, I mean live, up close, in person? The way their muscles sort of blend together in one massive machine of power and strength, ther way their hair is wisked back and their dark eyes look at you with an intelligence born of practice and breeding, he's like that. I don't actually know who his master is, I havn't actually taken time out of my schedule to find out. What am I talking about...sure you don't want that drink? See, Nick Knight is a vampire. You can stop laughing now, as you can see very plainly on my face, I am one as well. Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you, actually his vampratic nature is only secondary to this story, for the actualy beginning was when she came to work at the 96th, four years ago...today in fact. Oh, I never moved up in the ranks because I look too young, quit asking me stupid questions. Do you want me to tell you this story or not? Good. Her name was Natalie Lambert, beauty in motion. Soft, long flowing brown hair, liquid brown eyes, I could see why Nick was so instantly attracted to her. Oh yes he was, almost immediatley after he realized that she was not afraid of him, curious...yes...but never afraid. He confessed that he did not want to be a vampire anymore. He has been searching for a cure for years from what I understand and she promised to help him find one. She's smart, God forbid I don't know why he would want to go back, but if anyone can do it for him, she can. At first their relationship was restrained, some people like to call it friendship, I call it bullshit. Friends do not have the same kind of emotions flowing through them that these two people have. It's hard to explain, have you ever stood at the base of a giant waterfall, feeling the mist spray over your face and hands, knowing that the power there would be enough to kill you and yet somehow still overwhelmed by its power? Yet you get only the mist, for you are not stupid enough to delve head first into the waters, and thereby perish in the process. They share that mist, a kind of love that covers their hearts with both sadness and hope, awe and terror, the kind of love that could last forever, if they were willing to take that plunge into an unknown world where one might end up dead. Feeling love, I suppose, is natural and half of me thinks that she is probably as attracted to the vampire as she is to the man, all that power, lying dormant, needing only a touch to trigger a passion that would be as overwhelming as anything she has ever in her life experienced. And yet, at the same time, he is afraid. Afraid, I guess, that were they to become intimate he might kill her, and as young as he is, it's possible, but somehow, I don't think it would happen. What he has not yet realized is that feeding and lovemaking are separate acts, they come from and are generated from different parts of the body and different emotions. He considers that if he took her blood in an instant of desire, he would be feeding and that would be wrong, and I would tend to agree...IF he were feeding. But, strange thing about love, it creates inside of us this warm feeling of calm, and inside this calm, like the eye of a hurricane, anything is possible. Outside, only minutes away are raging winds and rains as deadly as anything on this earth, but inside the eye, ahhh, there is the calmest feeling, of serenity, and peace one might ever experience. I don't actually know if it is possible for them to have actualy human "sex" although I have a tendancy to say yes they could. Why? The folklore says that we cannot have that kind of sex because we have no blood in our bodies, but that is not true, for blood flows freely from prey to vampire or vampire to vampire and we continually renew that cycle of blood, it is what keeps our hearts beating, it is what makes us immortal. Nick is so convinced of his own evil, he will nt take the time to step back, look at what he has achieved and take the next step toward happiness. It is not unheard of, you know, in history, for a vampire and mortal to fall in love and be married. If you are willing to either bring your partner across, which I gather Nick is not, or stay with them until they pass away. I know this because I too have had lovers...human lovers, one who stayed with me for their entire life. My pain at their passing was overwhelming, which is why I do not have anyone now, the pain is real, it hurts like any other emotion. Vampires do not lose their sense of morality because they are vampires, they possess the same desires, emotions and needs of humans, after all, I was once a human as well. Nick was a human once too, a very long time ago. He remembers so much pain, oso many hardships, so many losses...including his current ones that he is afraid she will slip away from him as well. And, as much as I hate to say it, she will. I have not had the chance to study her as much, as I cannot look into her mind and see the things she has seen, but I do remember her once asking him to bring her across, when her death was eminant, but he would not, even in the face of death, he would not. He knows that eventually he is going to have to move on, he cannot stay her looking 35 for the rest of her life, he will have to leave. What then, when two hearts come together as one, they enfold one another in this blanket of neverending comfort and when that is ripped away, the pain...I cannot even begin to explain the pain. I am curious, so many times curious, why his master has not explained these things to him. Perhaps his master is dead, I do not know, or perhaps his master wishes Dr. Lambert to be one of us whether she wishes it or not and if that is the case, Nick is protecting her humainty by denying her himself. Now does that make any sense? Okay, look at it this way then, if that is the case, his master can "feel" him. It's like a homing device permanently implanted in the blood that calls to them, for your master is sworn to protect you...eternally, that is their bond when they give you this life, that is what they give up...their privacy. Sometimes masters and their children fall astray, if Nick's master dissapporves of him searching for this cure, that would lead them to centuries of discord. Perhaps because Dr. Lambert is capable of finding this cure, and the master knows it, he or she fears losing Nick. Make sense? Good. I cannot tell you what the future holds, I am not a psychic, but one thing I do know is that feelings like the ones they share cannot lay hidden and unresolved forever, and they are either going to blow up in one night of un parallelled passion, or Nick will be gone and the pain will take their place. Personally, I hope they opt for the first, for if he could simply get past his fear of tasting her, he would realize that he is not a monster, he is simply a man and their lives can be lived in harmony, in love...love, my friend, in it's truest and purest form is interesting to watch for it takes so many shapes. It is also the only kind of love in this universe that is completely and absolutely unstoppable, no matter how hard they might try to fight it. You cannot stop the tide, you cannot hide from the need and desire, it simply cannot be done. ***************************************************************** response, flames, oreos, letters of recommendation, definitions of "irony", and/or Geriant Wyn Davies home address to randolph@tenet.edu "I do hope this wave of altruism passes quickly, it is quite...distressing."-- LaCroix, Night in Question Trivia from...the last story still stands (about the word flattering) *****************************************************************
