Thanks to TPTB for their use. "Enchantment" by S. Clark Natalie Lambert appeared positively buoyant as she moved through the banquet hall. Her smile, her happiness, was both obvious and infectious. Those present who knew Natalie, co-workers and associates, knew the reason for this recent shift in attitude was the blond detective squiring her across the dance floor. The detective, who had a reputation for being sullen, tonight shared his companion's smile. All seated for dinner at the same table as the couple noted the young man was so enamored of his lady he couldn't take his eyes off her. He seemed not to eat a bite. Rather, he pushed the food around on his plate with his fork, to make it appear he had partaken of the meal. And, afterwards, the two were the toast of the dance floor. She, in her long black velvet dress, replete with beaded bodice and flowing skirts. Her long hair worn loose about her shoulders. He, cutting a dashing figure in a tuxedo, black tie, white shirt with onyx studs. The two twirled through the night, oblivious to all present, lost in their world of two. Nick Knight had it all planned. He and Natalie, together. Mortality, marriage to the woman he loved, and family. The existence he desired shared with the woman he desired. As he saw Natalie leave the hall with her fiancee, Detective Roy Parker, he knew he was watching his dream die. He knew it was time to move on.
