Please send comments, good or bad! :) And no, this probably didn't need to be written, much less posted, but...it was, um, kind of a dare. "And there are those who say I lead a boring life." --me & Natalie Lambert Give in to Your Nature (1/1) by L.A. Wolters (MVRJasper@aol.com) LaCroix angrily slashed a path through the forest, tugging Janette and Nicholas along after him. Shafts of early-morning light stabbed at sensitive vampiric skin where it shone through the leafy canopy above them. "This is fault, Nicholas," the master vampire intoned, raising one burned hand to shield the sensitive, hairless spot on the back of his head, the spot that already shone an angry red against his light, close-cropped hair...the spot that Janette and Nick routinely pretended not to notice. "As usual," Janette added, scowling at Nick over her shoulder and she struggled to keep up with LaCroix's pace and not leave Nick far behind. "But how was to know it was endangered?" Nick protested again. " wanted me to hunt. told me to give in to what I am. dragged us to this forest in the first place; I tried to tell you that forests have changed in the last few hundred years, but you wouldn't listen. And then the way you goaded me... I didn't want to do it. You made me. And I was hungry, LaCroix." "As are we," LaCroix said. "And if we had drained the ranger when she happened upon us, we would not be in this predicament now. We would have the strength to fly from this wasteland." "This... pit. This... 'nature preserve,'" Janette shuddered. "Really, Nicolas, must you attempt to hypnotize every mortal we meet? You how you are." "Killing her would have been wrong," Nick growled. "And killing Bambi was not?" LaCroix had to ask. "It Bambi!" Nick insisted. "And it wasn't even a deer. It was deer-." "Oh yes, of course. That makes all the difference," LaCroix replied. "I'd quite forgotten that your 'morality' worked that way." He counted on his fingers as they continued to flee. "And since we have not killed her, and since she does not 'whammy,' and since the sun is up and so are we, and since we have not fed and cannot fly, and since has a four-wheel drive vehicle that fast approaches, not to mention the fact that she's probably radioed every field unit in the area by now because she thinks we are, I believe 'redneck yahoos with guns' is the proper term, we will be forced to--" "Fill out !" Janette cried, turning an accusing look on Nick. "A fate worse than death..." Nick's vampiric heartbeat increased slightly. His pallor became more pallid. "No," he breathed. "No. Not paperwork. We'll be ." "Yes, Nicholas, we will be. Trapped in there, answering their mortal questions, filling out reams of paper, for...the...next...14...hours." He stopped and grabbed Nick by the throat just as an official green Jeep came crashing through the trees behind them. "For Nicholas, I demand retribution." Nick's blue eyes widened dramatically. "Oh, ," was all he could manage. ***** (OK... you can uncover your eyes now...)
