Furious, Natalie swept into the loft, tossing her coat on the black leather sofa.  Hands on her hips she glared at the blond vampire in front of her. Nick shrugged into his black duster, then turned to face her.  Taken aback by the anger and betrayal on the face of the woman he loved, he asked, "Why not?" "Oh!"  Natalie nearly screamed in frustration.  He could be *so* clueless sometimes! she thought to herself. "You weren't even going to tell me were you?" "Well, I probably would have mentioned it tomorrow, or the day after," Nick started, uncertain why he was getting the third degree.  After all, he'd done this before. "Tomorrow?"  She couldn't believe this. "But you were *going* tonight!" She took a deep breath.  "I suppose it wouldn't occur to you that I might want to go with you?" "Nat, I couldn't ask that of you.  It wouldn't be right."  He couldn't believe that she would want to go with him.  It was bad enough that he had to go. He didn't know her at all, she realized.  How could they have spent so much time together without him figuring it out? "Nick, I know you have to do this.  But I don't want you to do it alone. Let me come with you." She wanted to come with him.  His heart sang with joy.  He wouldn't have to face this alone.  Picking up her coat, he held it so that she could slip into it.  "Well then milady, if you're *sure* about this..." "I'm sure.  I won't let you go without me." As they rode down the elevator, Nick mused on how lucky he was to have met Natalie.  What other woman would volunteer to come with him on a stakeout? Especially one involving a room full of screaming four-year olds and the Barney movie. **************************** **************************** Barney belongs to someone else, *I* certainly don't want him! As usual, comments gratefully appreciated, flames cheerfully ignored!
