This is my Halloween fantasy and is completely self-indulgent, but I gladly share it with you! === Halloween...the best holiday of the year for those that love that night...those that love vampires...those that love *certain* vampires! October is always such a long month when spent in anticipation its final eve. Pumpkins had been bought with special care, and faces had been carved into them that expressed not only the orange orbs' personalities..but perhaps facets of the carver's own. (What better way to exorcise your own demons than to transfer them by way of a silver-edged knife into the flesh of a pumpkin to be set out and lit afire on the night of Samhain?!) The night finally arrived, and the preparations had been completed. Thirteen jack-o-lanterns now lit the way along the walk for the trick-or-treaters. The candy was placed by the door, and candles were the only light coming from within the house. The doorbell rang, and when the door opened into the night, there was a trio of visitors standing there. "Trick.......or treat," they said in unison. But none of them were the costumed kiddies that were expected...but they *were* children of the night...or perhaps the Knight. "Tracy!....Nick!.....and.........oh!......L...L....L...." "Lucien Lacroix," the tall man with the platinum crew cut completed the 'announcement' with a wicked glimmer in his sapphire eyes, since the woman answering the door could not seem to say his name in her shocked state of mind! The woman continued to gape at the unexpected guests. Lacroix simply smiled in calculated amusement, locking eyes with the woman and keeping her mesmerized into tension-filled silence. "Lacroix! You're making the poor woman nervous," Nick said to his maker in mock irritation. Apparently he was quite amused at the effect his father had on the female standing in the open doorway. "Yes." Lacroix said the word firmly, still staring at their 'hostess." The tip of his tongue darted out almost snake-like to caress the inner side of his own upper lip in a seductive and devilish manner. This produced a swift intake of breath from the object of his scrutiny. Lacroix smiled thinly at how simple the seduction was going to be tonight, and he looked forward to enjoying every moment of it. "Madam...please excuse our intrusion," Nick Knight said softly, trying (in vain) to get the woman to focus her eyes on his own. "My partner and I know that Halloween is your favorite holiday and that you usually spend it alone answering the door for the children and handing out candy, but we've come to take your place." The woman just continued to gaze at the taller of three visitors, not quite hearing what the younger man was babbling on about. Tracy decided to try her hand at explaining their arrival. "Nick and I are going to stay here tonight and take care of the trick-or-treaters.That is...if you don't mind." She smiled when she realized that her words were falling on deaf ears. "This isn't working, Nick," she whispered to her partner. Lacroix knew that he was going to have to clarify things. Before he spoke, he bent down and scooped up the flame-point Siamese cat that had attempted to escape the house while its owner's attention had been diverted. He stroked the animal until it purred in contentment and then stepped past two of Toronto's finest detectives and stood directly in front of the woman. He bent over to brush his face into the woman's reddish blonde hair. "I believe he is supposed to remain inside," he whispered into the woman's ear, indicating the ghost-like feline. "Nicholas...Miss Vetter," he spoke to his companions now, but never took his attention from the woman he'd come so far to visit., "Please take care of the cat and the house while I escort this lovely vision to....darker places." The situation was now clear to the woman, and her eyes widened in surprise, and she nodded when asked by the detectives if she was agreeing to the invitation. Her powers of speech had seemingly vanished, but there was now a pleasurable smile on her face. "Come, my child," Lacroix beckoned, and the woman took his proffered hand and followed him into the night. Tracy and Nick closed the door behind them. "Is she going to be all right?" "Tracy...I think we're better off just handling the trick-or-treat duties and not thinking about it." He turned away from his partner and stroked the cat that had jumped onto the back of the chair. "Besides, I have other things to discuss with you tonight...." "But Nick..." The doorbell rang, interrupting her questions. Nick whirled around to face his partner, and she saw that he was wearing fangs and red contact lenses. "Whoa! Great costume!" But just as the words trailed off, she realized how much those fangs and eyes resembled those of a certain Spaniard. "Uh.... *really* great costume." (Discretion is the better part of valor...and she decided that now was a good time to be discreet!) "Thanks." Nick laughed to himself; he'd been waiting all month to spring this on his partner! He then opened the door for the little 'goblins and ghouls' that yelled, "TRICK OR TREAT!" as Tracy scowled at her partner's back and wondered just how she would get her revenge. And then she knew exactly how she would get back at her partner. "Yeah, Nick.....Trick...or treat?!" The 800-year-old vampire looked over at his partner and watched in complete surprise as her own fangs descended. The shocked look on Detective Knight's face confirmed her suspicion that he'd been so engrossed in his own life lately that her change had gone unnoticed. Of course...she'd been too preoccupied with her own recent life changes to notice that her partner was also a vampire!. She laughed aloud at the ludicrous situation. "Oops!! The candy, Nick..." she said from behind the door, reminding him that there were children present. And somewhere under the starlit skies of Samhain, a woman was sighing in pain and pleasure as Lacroix sank his fangs into the soft flesh of her neck, carving the way for a new child of the dark. --the end-- Happy Halloween!!
