He was getting tired. His gaze wandered over Natalie in concern. Natalie must have been exhausted, because she was already asleep. ** I could stay awake just to hear you breathing ** Watch you smile while you are sleeping ** Far away and dreaming She lay there secure in his arms. Her auburn hair tickled his arm as he supported her head. With his other hand, he ran his fingers through the soft curls. Her chest moved up and down as she breathed. Her mouth was upturned in a smile. He traced the outline of her lips with his finger. ** I could spend my life in this sweet surrender ** I could stay lost in this moment forever ** Well, every moment spent with you ** Is a moment I treasure Natalie shifted her position and snuggled into his chest. Cradling her in his arms, he stood and carried her to his room. He lay her down on his bed. Wanting to make her feel more comfortable, he removed her slippers and sweater. He admired her sleeping form. he thought to himself. He marveled at how angelic she looked when she was asleep. After changing into his silk pajamas, he crawled under the covers, next to her. ** I don't wanna close my eyes ** I don't wanna fall asleep ** 'Cause I'd miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing He lay there, enjoying her warmth. She moved closer to him, as if knowing he were there with her. ** 'Cause even when I dream of you ** The sweetest dream will never do ** I'd still miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing Her pliant body next to his made him realize just how much he desired this woman . . . how much he loved her. There was nothing he would not do for her. ** Lying close to you ** Feeling your heart beating ** And I'm wondering what you're dreaming ** Wondering if it's me you're seeing Natalie sighed in her sleep, reaching her arms out . . . for him. He shifted again, and wrapped his arms around her. He held her close, enjoying the rhythm of her mortal heart beats. He longed to have his beat as one with hers. ** Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together ** And I just wanna stay with you ** In this moment forever, forever and ever Nick often wondered about bringing her across. They would be together forever. But he knew in his heart that the only way they could truly be together is if he became mortal again. A single blood tear trickled down the curve of his cheek. ** I don't wanna close my eyes ** I don't wanna fall asleep ** 'Cause I'd miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing ** 'Cause even when I dream of you ** The sweetest dream will never do ** I'd still miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing Natalie opened her eyes as if reading his thoughts. She smiled when she saw who was holding her, then frowned as she saw the single tear. She was about to comment, when he held a finger to her lips to silence her. He kissed her lips, reveling in their softness. ** I don't wanna miss one smile ** I don't wanna miss one kiss ** Well, I just wanna be with you ** Right here with you, just like this She pulled back, looking into his eyes. "What's wrong, Nick?" She caressed his cheek with the back of her hand, wiping the tear away. Nick shook his head. "Nothing. I just wanna be near you." He dipped his head closer for another kiss, trying to make her feel his love for her through his actions. ** I just wanna hold you close ** Feel your heart so close to mine ** And stay here in this moment ** For all the rest of time She returned the kiss with equal love, and longing. She closed her eyes . . . and parted her mouth. His tongue slipped in, caressing the warmth in her mouth. ** Don't wanna close my eyes ** Don't wanna fall asleep ** 'Cause I'd miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing Her lips were soft like warm silk. He inhaled her scent. His fingers tangled in her curls, drawing her closer. He could hear her pulse quicken as the kiss deepened and she moaned into his mouth. The vampire started to push against the sides of its confinement . . . it longed to drink of the blood that rushed through her body. ** 'Cause even when I dream of you ** The sweetest dream will never do ** 'Cause I'd still miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing Gently he ended the kiss. His fangs had started to descend. He kissed her shut eyes in apology. "I shouldn't have done that," he whispered in her ear. His voice was husky with the passion he ached to show her. "Shhh . . . it's okay, Nick." She turned her head and stared into his golden eyes, trying to assure him that she understood. He tightened his embrace, wanting to feel the all of her body against his. She ran her hands through his hair, soothing him. "I love you," he whispered into her ear. ** I don't wanna close my eyes ** I don't wanna fall asleep ** 'Cause I'd miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing Those words touched her very soul and she echoed his words, "I love you too, Nick." ** 'Cause even when I dream of you ** The sweetest dream will never do ** I'd still miss you, babe ** And I don't wanna miss a thing They lay there in silence.
