Date: Thu, 26 Sep 1996 20:19:48 EDT From: Janette Buchanan I wasn't really planning on posting anything anytime soon, but I just got my very first pre-approved credit card application in the mail today, and the Algebra teacher from hell is leaving town, so I am just in one of those psycho-happy moods where I try to hug my programming instructor. Forever Knight , LaCroix, Nat, Nick et al belong to the people at Columbia-Tristar, who promised me a movie in the response I got to my petition. They better not forget about that!! The whole Peter Pan thing started off as belonging to James S. Barrie, but then Disney bought it. I don't have their permission to use that line or any other reference to the book or movie, but what they don't know won't hurt them. I could write in French, but I'd like people to actually read it, despite possible extra brownie points in French class. This story takes place very soon after "Night in Question". It's already been repeated so many times that I can recite certain scenes, but I'll put a spoiler space anyways, just in case. S P O I L E R Just Think Happy Thoughts By: Janette Nick, Natalie, and Lacroix stood together on the roof of Nick's building, looking over the edge at the Caddy many many feet below. "It's a looooong way down." Natalie observed. "Really, Doctor, there's no reason to make this any harder than it has to be. It was hard enough the first time." "But I just don't understand. I was able to fly when I saved Tracy from that shooter, so why can't I do it now?" "Because you were acting from instinct." LaCroix explained as if speaking to a very young, not particularly bright child. "This sort of thing is always harder if you think about it too much." "What do you mean 'It was hard enough the first time'?" Natalie asked. Taking a deep breath, LaCroix started to tell her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Paris 1228 LaCroix, Nicolas and Janette stood on one of the many turrets of the cathedral of Notre Dame. Well, Nicolas and LaCroix stood. Janette was draped gracefully over a nearby gargoyle, giggling. Janette asked in French. LaCroix hissed in reply. Nick looked over the parapet at the cobbled street below. LaCroix looked over the parapet, and every last bit of his remainging color drained away. The last thing he heard before nearly fainting was Janette's laughter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Eventually, Janette shoved him over the edge, and rather than end up a rather large stain on the pavement, he figured out how to fly." "You're afraid of heights?" "Vertigo. Only conditions that we are not born with heal when we become vampires. However, that's really not the point here." "Well, I guess it's not *that* far down." Nick said, looking down at the hard pavement. For a minute, LaCroix grew very quiet. "Perhaps we should try a different approach to this. Nicolas, have you ever read the book "Peter Pan"?" "Yes. . . " "Well, think happy thoughts." "Actually, I think that they needed Pixie Dust in the movie." Natalie whispered to LaCroix. "That is _NOT_ a happy thought." He whispered back. "Well, I suppose I could try it." Nick stepped up onto the ledge. "Nick! No!" Natalie yelled. She ran to pull him back onto the roof, but instead tripped and accidentally shoved him over the edge. Nick wobbled for a minute, and then fell like a (pardon the pun) brick. "Oh. My. God." Natalie turned very pale. "I think I'm going to be sick." LaCroix glanced quickly over the edge, and then turned to go back inside, presumeably to find something to scrape Nick off of the pavemwnt with. "Well, it worked last time." The End Well, it *is* my first try after all.
