Thank you very much.... This story is based on characters created by J. Parriott and B. Cohen for the TV series Forever Knight. Just One of Those Days by Carrie Krumtum c. 1997 God, what a day. Tracy sighed as she dropped back onto her couch in complete exhaustion. Murphy, she thought, I think I hate you.... She took a deep breath and blew it out loudly as she ran through the days events again in her mind. Let's see, I got a ticket for parking too close to a fire hydrant. I'm a cop. Doesn't anybody make allowances anymore? I managed to tear my favorite pair of jeans trying to climb that fence. Damn Nick, anyway. How does he manage to get everywhere before I do? I run to keep in shape and I can move pretty fast. He always beats me. I don't know what he does but I think I need to talk to his personal trainer. The Jergensen report came back for completion ... again. Man, this case was like the thing that wouldn't die. No matter how many times she revised that damn thing, there always seemed to be something missing that someone else needed. Her coffee cup had gotten broken. HER coffee cup. Not anyone else's, hers. That new uniform, what was his name? Hawkins? Hanks? Halls? Hell ... whoever he was. Why'd he have to knock HER cup off the table and break it. The captain had THREE cups. Why couldn't it have been one of his? Sigh. And Vachon! What was the deal there? God, vampires could be so infuriating. He had been asked to dog-sit. That was it. Just dog-sit. What was so hard about that? You would have thought someone had asked him for HIS blood or something. Geez.... The dog in question had climbed up on her couch and was staring at her. What an ugly little mutt. This thing was even too ugly to be cute. Fat little body on top of four short, scrawny little legs. Gray wiry fur. Big black eyes on a face too small for them. The thing looks bug-eyed, for crying out loud. "What?" she asked the dog. In reply, the dog continued to look at her and began to wag its tail. "Do you have to go outside?" The dog continued to stare at her. "Do you want something to eat?" No change. Stare, wag tail, stare some more. "What? WHAT?" Tail wagging, stare, tail wagging, stare, tail wagging.... Sigh. Not even the dog is cooperating today. She closed her eyes for a minute. She heard a soft yap and looked back at the dog. "Go away. I'm not in the mood for guessing games." The dog stared at her and the tail continued to wag. "Go on. Get down." The dog didn't seem to have any intentions of following orders. "Go on, would ya? Get!" Tail wagging, stare, tail wagging, stare.... "Okay, stay right there. Don't you move and don't you dare stop staring at me, either," she ordered. SOMEONE is going to behave exactly like *I* want them to for a change. The dog promptly turned around, jumped off the couch and, moving to the corner of the room, curled up and went to sleep. Tracy giggled, in spite of everything. "Yep," she told the room, "it sure is just one of those days...." End All comments and virtual chocolates to -- Carrie, BH and GWD Fan "Go big or go home.
