Erika 12/97 'Twas the day before Christmas and all through the Raven Not a ratsie was stirring (Screed had 'em behavin'). The vampires were sleeping all cozily crated; Dreaming of fresh blood unwillingly donated. Nick in his Caddy and Natalie dissecting, Were just settling down to a night of detecting. When their beepers sang out and the radio cried, "Proceed to the scene of a possible homicide." On the roof of the Raven, LaCroix stood and sneered Over the red-clad corpse of a fat man with a beard. "Do you know what you've done?" Nick gasped in disbelief. "Of course," LaCroix replied. "I've dispatched a common thief. "That's no thief," Nick pronounced. "You'd no probable cause. You're under arrest for the murder of Santa Claus!" "You're deranged!" LaCroix laughed with a cold-hearted leer. "Then what are those?" Said Nick, pointing at eight tiny deer. "Wait," Natalie puzzled. "Aren't there supposed to be nine?" "Yummm," Screed slurped. "Aye dew like a drop o' venison wine." "Oh great," Nick threw up his hands. "Now Rudolph is dead." Then Rudolph looked up with his nose and both eyes glowing red. "Hey," Vachon and Urs dropped in. "Who put the bite on St. Nick?" "I did." Acknowledged LaCroix. "And I suddenly feel rather sick." "You do look flushed," Natalie frowned. "Your nose is red as a cherry. And if I'm not completely mistaken, your chin is getting hairy." "I feel strange," LaCroix moaned. "What incredible folly. That fat man's blood is making me feel...jolly." He grimaced in pain and threw back his head With a deep "Ho ho ho!" he rushed to Santa's sled. "Hurry!" He cried, unhitching the deer. "Get bags for the toys, We've got to bring Christmas to all the good girls and boys! Natalie watched the bustling vampires and chuckled to herself. "Well," she asked Nick. "How does it feel to be promoted to elf?" "Really weird," Nick smiled as he tied his toys on Blitzen, While Vachon worked on Comet and Urs loaded hers on Vixen. In order to keep Rudolph the red-nosed vampire, separated, Screed drove the sled, pulled by the carouche he'd created. LaCroix leapt on Dasher and they rose into the air. "Let's move out," he cried. "We've no time to spare!" Vachon jumped on Cupid while Urs mounted Dancer. Nick gave Nat a kiss before he took his place on Prancer. Natalie stood and watched as they flew out of sight, Until she could no longer follow Rudolph's red light. "Well Nick," she sighed. "This may gain you a soul, But I'm not sure I want to live at the North Pole."
