We all know who Nick and the rest of the gang REALLY belong to....I'm just borrowing them for a while. ============================================================ ADULT: Quiet Night, Quiet Storm by StephiLyn Fryar--Part 1/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- It was a rare occurrence when Nick Knight actually looked forward to a night off, and his eagerness was evident just as his shift was ending at the 96th Precinct. It had been a little over six months since he had met Sara Louise McClendon, and he had planned something special for tomorrow night. "Well, Nick." Tracy said with a smile as she finished up some paperwork. "You look happy tonight. Is there something that I should know about?" "Oh, it's nothing, Trace." he said to her as he was getting the last of the files put away. "It's nice to have a night off. We've been so busy lately, I thought that we'd never get one." "I know what you mean." she replied. "I'm so glad that we've finally gotten caught up with everything. So...what do you plan to do on your night off, Nick?" "Well..." he said, smiling, "I was going to spend the evening at home watching some movies. I haven't done it in a long time, and I thought that it would be a fun way to relax." "Are you going to be watching them with anyone?" Tracy asked him. "Who is it?" Nick didn't answer her question right away. "Let's just say that I won't be watching them by myself." he finally told her. "What are you going to do, Tracy?" "I was going over to Vachon's place." she told him. "There are a few things that we need to talk about, and l thought that now would be just as good a time as any to get everything out in the open." "That's not a bad idea, especially after what happened when the two of you met again. Well, it's time to go." Nick said as he took a quick look at his watch. "I'll see you on Thursday night." He got up and left his desk, with Tracy following after him, her curiousity still not satisfied. "You still haven't told me who's going to watch those movies with you, Nick." she said to him. "Tell me who's the lucky lady? Is it Natalie?" "No." Nick said to her. "It's Sara Louise McClendon." Tracy smiled brightly. "The two of you make a cute couple. I'm glad that you like each other." she said. "I like her. She's great." "I'm glad that you do, Trace." he said to her. "It's nice to know that you like her as much as I do. Well, I'd better get going. I want to get to the all-night video store before sunup. I'll see you on Thursday night. Bye." "Bye, Nick. I'll see you then." Tracy said to him as they left the building. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Nick got into the Caddy and drove over to 24/7 Video on Yonge Street. He spent three hours choosing five movies he thought Sara Louise might like to watch. After he had finally chosen the ones that he wanted, he left the video store, and stopped off at the Blue Ribbon QuickMart on Danforth Street to pick up some popcorn, potato chips and soda. The clerk looked surprised when she saw the customer who had come up to the checkout counter with a shopping cart full of big bags of potato chips and popcorn and a dozen large bottles of soda. "Are you going to have a party?" she asked him curiously. "You've got quite a bit of stuff here." "No..." Nick replied to her pleasantly. "I'm having someone come over to my place and we're going to watch some movies together." "That's very nice. I hope that you'll have a pleasant evening." the clerk replied as she finished ringing up the total of his purchases. "That'll be fifteen-seventy-five." Nick paid for the items and put the bags into the cart. "Thanks." he said to the clerk."Goodnight." He loaded up the Caddy and went back to the loft. After he had put the snack foods in the cabinet, he put the bottles of soda in the refrigerator, after he took out his bottle of cow's blood. "I hope that I don't grab one of these bottles by mistake." he said to himself after he had put the bottles of soda away. He sat down on the sofa, took the bag of movies from off of the coffee table and looked at each one carefully. He was satisfied with his selections and he knew that Sara would like them, too. "I hope that she'll like these." he said to himself as he took a drink from the bottle, put the movies back in the bag, stretched out on the sofa and drifted off to sleep, knowing that tomorrow night would be perfect. ------------------------------------------------------------ Nick was awake just as the the sun began fading away. He showered, shaved and got dressed for the evening; choosing a blue shirt and a pair of black jeans, after deciding against wearing the black shirt with the white piping on the front. He remembered Sara's reaction when she had seen him wearing it, just a month ago when he had paid her a brief visit to see how she was doing. "You look like the 'Midnight Cowboy', Nick." she had said, giggling at the sight of him. "All you need is a ten-gallon hat and you're all set." He smiled at the memory as he hung up the shirt in the back of his closet, and decided that the "Midnight Cowboy" look wasn't exactly what he wanted for tonight. He took a quick glance at his watch after he had finished dressing. It was six-thirty, and he was supposed to pick Sara Louise up at eight-thirty. He decided to check and make sure that he had everything ready when she got there. He was still fiddling around with the vcr and the rest of the sound equipment when he heard a soft whoosh of wind coming from behind him. Nick turned around to see LaCroix standing near the fireplace. "What are you doing here, LaCroix?" Nick asked, with a slight touch of annoyance. "I thought that you'd be getting ready to open the Raven." "It's nice to see you, Nicholas. I've already opened up the club. It's just that I was thinking about you and I wanted to pay you a visit." LaCroix said pleasantly, as he looked around the loft and noticed the brightly-colored bag that was on the coffee table. "What have we here?" LaCroix picked up the bag and opened it. "Are you going to watch some movies tonight?" he asked as he looked at the movies that Nick had chosen. "Yes, I am." Nick replied as he took the bag of movies away from LaCroix and put it back on the coffee table. "Why are you checking up on me, LaCroix?" "I just wanted to see how you were doing." LaCroix replied defensively. "I've heard that there's someone...new in your life. I'm just curious as to who she might be, since you and the good doctor are no longer together." Nick sighed. "Why are you so interested, LaCroix?" he asked the elder vampire. "I thought that after what happened to us last year, that you'd allow me the chance to be happy with someone of my own choosing after Natalie and I agreed to go our separate ways." "I'd like to know who she is, Nicholas." LaCroix said defensively. "I have no intention of harming her just because you like her, if that's what you're thinking about..." "It's Sara Louise McClendon." Nick said as he went upstairs to get his car keys and his wallet. LaCroix thought for a moment and said, "Ah, yes...I remember her now. She was the one who witnessed that unfortunate "incident" concerning Marcus and his lawyer. She's a very lovely woman, judging by the pictures of her that I've seen in the papers. I hope that you'll introduce her to me one day." "She might not like you, LaCroix." Nick said as he came back downstairs, and finished checking his home theatre to make sure that everything was just right. "Besides, she and Vachon spent quite a bit of time at the Raven, I'm surprised that you didn't meet her then. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pick Sara up, and I hope that you won't be here when we get back." "I don't disapprove of Sara, if that's what you mean, Nicholas." LaCroix said firmly as Nick was about to leave. "She seems to bring out the best in you, and I approve. She has managed to do what Natalie Lambert, apparently, could not. Sara Louise seems to have captured the heart of the vampire...and the human." Nick looked at LaCroix for a moment, after he had picked up his black duster from the coatrack. "Thank you, LaCroix." The look of gratitude that was on Nick's face as he stepped into the elevator pleased the elder vampire greatly. "I'd better go. I don't want to be late." he said. "It's time for me to leave, too." LaCroix said. "Please give my regards to your lady, Nicholas, and I hope to see her soon." With that, LaCroix vanished from sight, and Nick got into his Caddy and drove off to Sara's apartment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------- End part 1/5---Quiet Night, Quiet Storm---(to be continued...) StephiLyn Fryar---SFryar@aol.com Copyright July, 1997 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------- >> >> >> The usual disclaimers mentioned in part one are still in force... ============================================================ ADULT: Quiet Night, Quiet Storm by StephiLyn Fryar---Part 2/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------- Nick arrived at Sara Louise's apartment at eight-fifteen, and when she opened the door to greet him, she was dressed in a fluffy blue bathrobe. He looked puzzled when he saw her standing in the doorway. "Hi, Nick." she greeted him warmly. "Come on in. I didn't expect you to be here so early! I had taken a shower and was just about to get dressed." "Hi, Sara." he said as he entered her apartment. "When I saw you dressed like that, I thought you had forgotten about our movie night." "Oh, I didn't forget, Nick." she said brightly as she was going to her bedroom. "Sit down and make yourself at home. I just have to get dressed and fix my hair. I'll be ready in a few minutes." "Take your time, Sara." Nick said, as he sat down on the slightly overstuffed sofa and looked around her apartment. "I'm not in a hurry." "Okay...I'll be right out." her voice floated out of the bedroom. Nick had only had time to give her apartment a quick look the first time that he had been there, but now, he had plenty of time to look around and he saw the shelves and storage cabinets were filled with collections of bric-a-brac and other whimsical items. These things gave her apartment a warm, cozy, lived-in look which was a refreshing change from the cool monk-like sterility of his loft. Nick idly wondered what it was like to spend the night with her in this cheerful, cozy place. "Okay, Nick. I'm ready." Sara emerged from the bedroom with her purse in her hand. She was wearing a pink pearl colored sweater and bluejeans; her black hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore no makeup, except for a touch of rose-colored lipstick on her lips. "How do I look?" she asked him. "You look lovely, Sara." Nick told her, responding to her smile with one of his own. "So, are you ready to go?" Sara took her jacket out of the closet and looked at Nick. "I'm ready. Let's go." They left the apartment, got into the Caddy and headed to the loft. ----------------------------------------- As they drove toward the loft, Sara said, "I didn't think that we'd get to see each other again after everything that happened. I'm glad that you asked me to come by to watch some movies with you. I like you, Nick. I like you a lot." "I like you, too, Sara." Nick said, smiling. "I'd like to get to know you better, too. I know that we weren't able to spend too much time together after the case ended, but, I enjoyed being with you, and I wanted to see you again." "I'm glad, Nick." she said, giggling slightly. "I wanted to see you again, too. It's always a pleasure to spend time with someone that you like." As the Caddy pulled up in front of the loft, she felt happy and excited. She knew that something wonderful was going to happen tonight, and she could hardly wait. ----------------------------- When they entered the loft, Sara still couldn't get over the feeling that she was entering a museum, instead of an apartment. 'My place looks like a tacky mess compared to his.' she thought to herself as she hung her jacket up on the coatrack, after Nick had hung his duster up, and made his way to the kitchen. "Make yourself comfortable." Nick said to her while he grabbed a bag of popcorn from the cabinet, and searched for a large bowl to put it in. Sara sat down on the sofa, placing her purse on the coffee table. She saw the bag on the table and was about to open it to see what movies he had selected, but she decided to let the movies that Nick had picked out for her be a pleasant surprise. She knew that the temptation to peek inside would be hard to resist. Nick had filled up the bowl with popcorn and put it on the kitchen table. He went to the refrigerator, pulled out a bottle of blood for himself and a bottle of soda for Sara. After he had done that, he took the bowl and the bottles and brought them into the living room and placed them on the coffee table. He reached for the remote and turned on the tv. Her eyes sparkled when she saw the big bowl of popcorn and the bottle of soda that he had put on the table. "Thanks, Nick." she said. "You shouldn't have..." "Well, I wanted our movie night to be special," he told her, "so I made sure that we'd have everything we need. I hope that you'll like the movies that I picked out for us, Sara." He reached for the bag and opened it. "I'm sure I will." she replied. "What did you get for us to watch?" "Let's see what we've got." Nick pulled five cassette boxes from the bag and looked at them carefully. "I've got "Legends Of The Fall".... "Toy Story"..." Sara giggled as he fumbled with the tapes. " Here's "Star Trek: Generations"..."A Walk In The Clouds" and "Species". Which one did you want to see first?" "I'd like to see "Legends Of The Fall". It's a very romantic movie, from what I've heard about it." Sara said with a grin. "Okay." Nick said as he got up and went to the vcr. As he was pushing the buttons on the remote to turn on the vcr after he had put the tape inside it, he turned on the radio instead and the mellow voice of the NightCrawler suddenly filled the room, which surprised both of them. "Tonight, dear children, I speak of new things and of new beginnings..." LaCroix said as he watched the dancers moving out on the Raven's brilliantly-lit dance floor. "When you have let go of the past to begin again, perhaps this time you won't hold back what you feel within yourself from the one whose heart has captured yours so completely. To release all that you are to someone who will hold nothing back from you and give you what you desire most and you shall be able to return that generous gift, freely given without hesitation, with one of your own..." Nick hastily turned off the radio and finally found the button that activated the vcr. "That sounded so optimistic, Nick," Sara said as he sat down on the sofa beside her, "especially when you consider that the NightCrawler doesn't usually talk like that." "Yes..." Nick replied as the movie began. "That did sound rather pleasant for him, didn't it?" "Indeed." Sara said as she snuggled close to him. --------------------------------------- The sweeping story of the Ludlow family's lives, loves, trials, tribulations and triumphs moved quickly, and before they knew it the movie had come to an end. Nick got up and asked Sara to hand him another tape. She opened up the bag and pulled out another movie and handed it to him while a faint rumble of thunder sounded in the distance. Nick looked at the tape that she had handed to him. " 'Species' ?" he asked her. "Yeah!" Sara grabbed a handful of popcorn and began nibbling on it. "The movie critic for the Sun said that it was " 'Alien' meets 'Basic Instinct'." The description of the plot got me interested in wanting to see it." "It's a very interesting description, Sara!" Nick sat down and started the movie. As the opening credits began, Sara thought that she heard a rumble of thunder, and as she laid her head on Nick's shoulder, she hoped that the storm would hold off until the movie ended. By the time the last notes of the closing credits theme ended, the storm had begun in earnest. While Nick was taking the movie out of the vcr, Sara Louise got up from the sofa and carefully walked toward the window, not daring to get too close as the storm continued. She saw brilliant flashes of lightning streak across the sky while the rain came down in sheet-like torrents. "Sara?" Nick asked, jarring her from her thoughts. "Yes, Nick?" she asked, walked back toward the sofa and sat down, carefully picking up the empty bottles of blood that were around the sofa and putting them in a nearby trash bag. "Would you like to see another movie now?" he asked her, after he had put the movies back in the bag, and sat down beside her. Sara glanced toward the window nervously. "Uh..., I don't think so. It looks like the storm's getting worse, and I thought I saw the lights blink after that last lightning flash." "You're probably right about that..." Nick said as he noticed a bolt of lightning striking a nearby rooftop. "It looks like we're in for a rough night." "Yes, it looks like we'll have to wait until after the storm's over before we can finish watching..." Sara's words were suddenly interrupted by a brilliant flash of lightning and a tremendous clap of thunder which plunged the loft into total darkness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- End part 2/5---Quiet Night, Quiet Storm---(to be continued...) StephiLyn Fryar---SFryar@aol.com Copyright July, 1997 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------- >> The usual disclaimers in part one are still in force...I tried to write this scene as tastefully as I could...and it wasn't easy to do... ============================================================ ADULT: Quiet Night, Quiet Storm by StephiLyn Fryar---Part 3/5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------- The loft's sudden darkness except for the fire that glowed softly in the fireplace didn't help Sara very much. "Nick!" she said, feeling panicky as she looked around for him. "Where are you?" "I'm right here, Sara." Nick's voice seemed to come from a million places at once, which didn't help her nerves. "I'm going to find something to brighten up the room a bit." Nick had gone through the drawers in the cabinet, and found a box of matches. He struck the match and the match flared into brilliant light. He went around to the various candleabras that were scattered around the room and lit each candle one by one. When he had finished, the room was filled with soft, gentle light. Sara smiled after Nick had finished lighting the last candle. "It's beautiful, Nick!" "I'm glad that you approve." he replied, after he sat down on the sofa beside her. Sara wasn't sure what to say to Nick at that moment, but there was a question that had been on her mind ever since she had met him, and she decided that now was a good time to ask him. "Nick?" she said hesitantly. "There's something I'd like to ask you..." "What is it?" he asked her gently as the storm seemed to lessen in intensity. "Why do you want to become mortal?" she asked. "Why is becoming mortal important to you?" "Because..." Nick said, gazing into her sparkling dark eyes, "I want to be able to walk in the sunlight, to be able to eat, and... to be loved." "Do you think that you have to be mortal in order to be loved?" Sara asked as she held his hand tenderly. "Why do you tell yourself all of those lies when you know in your heart that you can be loved...and that someone can love you in spite of what you are?" Nick got up from the sofa and walked toward the window. He stood and watched as the lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant streaks as the rain continued to fall. Sara quietly stood next to him and gently touched his shoulder. "You haven't answered my question, Nick." she said softly. "Do you think that you have to be mortal in order to be loved?" "Yes, I do." he replied. Sara's hand gently brushed across his cheek, followed by a soft, gentle kiss. "I don't think so." she whispered, as she caressed his hand. Nick moved away from her, and sat down on the sofa, unsure of what to do. He had felt something when Sara kissed him, but he wasn't sure what it meant. "What's wrong, Nick? What's the matter?" Sara asked him, following him back to the sofa. "Did I do something wrong?" "You didn't do anything wrong, Sara." he said as he looked into her dark eyes. "I think you know that I have...feelings for you, but I'm afraid that if I were to make love to you, I might do to you what I almost did to Natalie. You have the choice. You can say "no" to this." "Nick, I'd like to be the one who makes the decision on whether I'm in a harmful situation or not." she told him. "Why should I say "no" to someone that I care about? Why should I say "no" to someone that I love very much. I love you and I want you so much..." Sara gently touched his shoulders before she kissed him tenderly once more. Nick responded to her passionate kiss with one of his own, and while one storm raged outside, another storm was about to stir... ------------------------------------------------------------ After they kissed, Sara's hands gently glided down Nick's chest and she began to tenderly unbutton his shirt. As she unbuttoned it, she kissed his chest with light, soft kisses. "Sara..." Nick said, as she kissed his neck. "You don't have to do this..." "I want to..." she said, continuing to kiss his chest with light, butterfly kisses. Nick leaned back against the sofa, in order to give her plenty of room to kiss and tenderly caress him. Her tender touches filled Nick with such intense pleasure as she continued to gently kiss and caress him. Her lips gently brushed against his chest and she kissed his nipples tenderly. Her tongue lightly flickered against his nipples and he moaned gently as the sensations of pleasure flowed through him. "Sara..." Nick whispered as he laid his hands on her shoulders. "Let me do something for you, please?" He pulled her sweater up over her head in a quick, graceful movement and gently laid it on the coffee table. Sara giggled when she realized that she wasn't wearing her sweater any more. "Nick! How did you do that?" she asked him. "It's all in the reflexes." he said with a grin. Nick's hands gently moved down her chest until he found the front hooks of her bra, and tenderly unfastened it. He removed her bra and placed it on the table as well. "You're so beautiful, Sara." he whispered as his hands fondled and caressed her dark, full breasts tenderly. He sat up slightly and held her in his arms. He could feel her nipples harden with unspoken passions as she pressed her breasts against his chest. He could smell the soft fragrance of her blood, and the subtle aroma of roses, jasmine, lilacs and herbs filled him with pleasure. He looked at her in the soft candlelight, illuminated briefly by flashes of lightning and was awed by her beauty. "I want you so much." he whispered, as he began to lick and suck her nipples in the same tender way that she had done to him. Sara tilted her head back and moaned as she felt Nick's tongue lightly brush across each nipple. She felt a surge of passion flow through her as Nick continued to kiss and caress her with his cool, soft hands. She was enjoying the pleasure that he was giving to her just as she had enjoyed giving pleasure to him. Nick thought that she was repulsed by the touch of his cold skin on her body and was about to stop, until he heard her whisper, "Nick...don't stop, please. I want more. I...want you." His passionate kisses and caresses continued unil Sara shuddered with the thrill of an orgasm. "That was wonderful, Nick..." she murmered into his ear, "but I want more. Do you?" "Yes, I do, Sara." he replied, his voice husky with passion. "What would you like to do?" "Let's go up to your bedroom..." She got up from the sofa and picked up her clothes from the table. After Nick got his shirt and gave it to Sara, he picked her up in his arms and flew her up to his bedroom to her surprise and delight.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- End part 3/5---Quiet Night, Quiet Storm---(to be continued...) "That was wonderful!" she giggled. "I didn't think that we'd get there like this... Can you see where you're going?" She noticed that his bedroom was darker than the rest of the loft, even though the candlelight still filled the room with a soft glow that spread to the bedroom. "Being a vampire does have certain advantages, Sara." he replied, as he gently laid her down on the bed, and helped her to take off her jeans. "We're able to see quite well in the dark." "Of course..." she said quietly, as the storm eased. "That's how you're able to find your...prey." "I don't think of you as 'prey', Sara." Nick said after he had removed his jeans and laid them on the floor next to the rest of their clothes. "I think of you differently." "In what way?" she asked after he lay down on the bed beside her. NIck pulled her close to him. "I want to make love to you, Sara, but, I might bite you...there might be blood..." "I don't mind that. " she replied. "You're a vampire, and that's what I'd expect. So...do you think that you can be loved, Nick?" Her hand gently touched his face as she asked him the question. "I don't know yet, Sara, but I'm willing to try." He took her in his arms and kissed her passionately. His kisses were cool, and Sara Louise was enjoying his passionate affection. She caressed his skin and felt how cool and smooth it was. The intermittant flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder only served to fuel their long-dormant passions as she responded to his passionate kisses. "Oh, Nick..." she whispered in his ear. "I want you so much. I've never wanted someone the way that I want you right now...." "I never thought that I'd feel this way with any woman...not even with Natalie." Nick whispered back. "I want you so much, Sara." He resumed his gentle fondling of her soft, dark breasts as he moved closer to her. Sara closed her eyes and moaned gently as Nick's tongue gently flickered across her nipples. His cool lips kissed her breasts and he could feel the warmth of her body fill him with an intense pleasure that he hadn't experienced before. As their passionate kissing and caressing continued, both of them felt their long-suppressed needs awaken, and Sara Louise thought that she felt something stirring against her leg. She didn't dare tell Nick about it just yet; but when she felt it pressing against her leg again, she knew that what she felt was unmistakeable. "Oh, my!...Nick!...You're hard!" Sara gasped in amazement. "What?" Nick seemed puzzled and surprised by what she said. "What did you say?" "Nick.. you're hard." she told him. "Really..." At first, he was surprised for a moment, then a look of love crossed his face. "I didn't think that I would ever feel that again." he whispered to her tenderly. "I want you, Nick. I've waited for you for so long..." she murmered in his ear as she gently tugged at his briefs. "Take me...please." She had never felt this way about any man until now, and she wanted Nick inside her. "I want you, too, Sara." he said as he helped her to remove his briefs and placed them on the floor. He then gently removed her panties and they also fluttered to the floor. Both of them were naked, and Nick moved over slightly in order for him to be on top of her without hurting her. Sara reached down and tenderly touched Nick's penis and she was surprised at how wonderful it felt. It was cool, hard and smooth, like a piece of finely sculpted marble. Her delicate hand continued to stroke it gently, and with every stroke, Nick moaned in delight. The vampire and the human had become one at that moment, and he could no longer hold back his passion from her. "I want you now, Sara." Nick murmured, as his eyes slowly transfomed from blue to brilliant gold. "Please..." "I want you, too..." Sara whispered, as Nick gently opened her legs and moved closer to her warm wetness. He could feel the warmth radiating from every part of her as he kissed her breasts once more. Sara held her breath as Nick's penis plunged inside her warm, willing body. She moaned in delight as he moved inside her; her hands gliding up and down his back as he continued to move inside her in a passionate rhythm while the storm continued to rage. As the storm continued, their passions burned and rose to a fevered pitch as they moved together, their bodies locked together in passion, their moans and cries of desire and love filling the air... ---------------------------------------------- Nick was kissing Sara's neck when the vampire within took control. She could hear a low growl in his throat as she felt his fangs brushing against her neck. His need for her sent a surge of passion through both of them, as though they had been struck by lightning. She clung to him as he moved faster within her, as he filled her and satisfied her long-hidden desires. She felt two sharp pinpricks at her throat and Nick drank from her slowly, allowing her blood to fill him with warmth. He could feel the love and happiness that was inside her, but he could also feel all of the pain that she had suffered in her life, too. As Nick drank a little more of Sara Louise's blood, he realized that her blood was doing for him what Natalie's blood couldn't do; he felt calmed and soothed by the blood that was now within him, and he was satisfied with the small amount of blood that he had taken from her. Sara moaned and whispered, "I love you, Nick." Nick looked at her and whispered, "I love you too, Sara." He kissed the wound on her neck, and as he did, he filled her with his own substance. She closed her eyes and felt the wonderful sensation of coldness that flowed through her when he had done it. As the storm slowly faded away, so did Nick and Sara's passions as he gently removed himself from her, her damp warmth still clinging to him. He could hear the calm, steady beating of her heart as he covered their bodies with the cool satin sheets. He touched her cheek as she reached for his hand and held it tenderly. "Nick..." she whispered, her eyes slightly open. "I love you." He pulled her close to him once more and said, " I know, and I never want to lose you, Sara. Ever." "You won't lose me, Nick..." she whispered, snuggling close to him. "I'm someone who's hard to lose..." She laid her head against his shoulder and fell asleep. Nick kissed her forehead once more before he fell asleep beside her. The storm had ended, and all was quiet as each candle that Nick had lit slowly went out, one by one, until the loft was dark. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- End part 4/5---Quiet Night, Quiet Storm---(to be continued...) Sara was the first to awaken just as the sun began to slowly fade away from view. "Nick..." Sara whispered gently, "I think it's time for us to get up now." She touched his cheek softly. "Do you have to go to work this evening?" He opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was Sara's smiling face. "Hi, Sara." he mumbled sleepily. "How are you feeling?" "I'm fine." she replied happily. "How do you feel?" "I feel...good." he said, pulling her close and putting his arms around her. "I never thought I'd feel like this." "I'm glad, Nick." she said, after he finished kissing her. "I don't know what time it is, but, do you have to go to work tonight? It's hard to say whether the lights are back on yet after last night's blackout." "Let's find out." Nick reached over and turned on the bedside table lamp. The room was filled with the soft brillance of the lamp and he saw that Sara Louise was even more beautiful now than she was last night. "Now we know that the lights work." she said as she got up from the bed and went to find her clothes. "I'm going to take a shower, if you don't mind." She had found all of her clothes and put them on the bed when Nick got up from the bed, went over to the closet and removed an article of clothing from it and handed it to Sara. "Here...this is for you." he said after he handed it to her. "I hope that you'll like it." Sara's eyes lit up in amazement as she looked at what Nick had given to her. It was a lovely pink silk brocade dressing gown, with black velvet trimming on the collar and cuffs. "Oh, Nick! This is lovely! Thank you !" she said, giving him a big hug. "I love this!" She put the dressing gown on and modeled it for him. "It's a perfect fit. Thanks, Nick." "I thought that I'd keep it handy for your overnight visits." Nick replied with a devilish grin. "I'm glad you like it." "Yes, I do." Sara replied as she picked up her clothes from the bed. "I'm going to take my shower now." She headed off to the bathroom while Nick had put on his dressing gown. He had chosen the clothes that he was going to wear to work, and made a call to the precinct to double-check the time that he was supposed to report. After he had done that, he went to the bathroom to take his shower. Sara was reaching for the soap when she stepped backwards and landed in Nick's arms. "Nick!" she giggled, punching his arm slightly. "Don't sneak up on me like that! You almost scared me out of my wits!" "Sorry, Sara...." he said, putting his arms around her. "I couldn't resist." "I'll bet..." she replied, kissing him tenderly. ------------------------------------------------------------------ They had just finished getting dressed when Sara noticed the tell-tale puncture wounds on her neck. Nick noticed the look on her her face when she discovered them and hoped that she wouldn't be angry with him. "Sara... Are you all right?" he asked her. "Are you upset with me because I bit you last night?" Sara looked at Nick with a smile. "I knew that you were going to bite me when we made love last night." she replied, after she adjusted the collar of her sweater so the bite marks were less noticeable.. "If you didn't bite me, I'd wonder what kind of vampire you were. So, what time do you have to check in?" "I check in at seven-thirty." he told her, after he took a quick glance at his watch. "That's great." she said, leaving the bedroom and heading downstairs. "That gives us a little time to clean up our mess." Nick followed Sara downstairs and they picked up the empty snack food bags and made sure that everything was put in the garbage. Nick picked up the bag of movies from the coffee table and gave them to Sara. She looked at the bag of movies and said, "I'm sorry that we weren't able to finish up our movie night, Nick. Who'd have thought that it would be cancelled by a blackout. Some people might think that we didn't have any fun last night." "I know..." Nick said, smiling, "but there'll be another time for that. Besides...you and I did have fun during the blackout, didn't we?" "Yes, we did, Nick." she grinned. "Are you ready?" Nick had put on his black duster and Sara gave him the bag of movies."I'm ready. Are you?" She grabbed her purse from the table and put on her jacket. "Now, I am. Let's go." They left the loft and got into the Caddy. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Nick dropped Sara off at her apartment before he went to work. He stood beside her while she unlocked the door to her apartment. "Thank you for the nice evening, Nick." she said. "I hope that we can do it again sometime." "Me, too, Sara." he replied."It was nice being with you. I enjoyed our night together." "So did I..." she said quietly, looking into his beautiful blue eyes."Nick...do you still believe that you have to be mortal in order to be loved?" "Before last night, I wouldn't have thought so, but, now...I'm willing to try." he said to her. "I want to try, Sara. Will you help me?" "Yes." she whispered. "I will." He took her in his arms and kissed her tenderly. After a few minutes, Nick broke off the kiss. "I'd better get going. I don't want to be late." Nick said as he pulled away from her gentle embrace, turned and walked away from her. "I'll call you sometime. Goodnight." "Right. I don't want you to get into trouble with Captain Reese." Sara said. "Goodnight." She was about to step inside when she poked her head out of the doorway and said, "Nick! I love you!" Nick turned back and smiled. "I love you, too Sara! Goodnight!" He left her apartment, got back into the Caddy and drove off. He turned on the radio, and as he drove toward the precinct, he dared to hope that the happiness that he had long sought was now finally within his reach. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When Nick arrived at the precinct, Tracy was already at her desk, and she was wearing a turtleneck sweater. "How was your night off, Trace?" Nick asked her. "Did you go see Vachon?" "Yes, I did, Nick." Tracy said, grinning. "We had a great time just talking and we were able to get a lot of things out in the open. I felt a lot better. How was your date with Sara last night?" She turned her head slightly, and Nick could see part of a puncture wound on her neck.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------- That's the end of the story... maybe.
