While clearly a Seducer story, this does have a UF tone to it. It takes place directly after events in "Human Factor," (spoilers!!) although even I'm not sure if it occurs *before* or *after* the tag - you decide. Standard disclaimers apply, including the one that says "I claim to be no great writer." Permission to archive at www.fkfanfic.com - everyone else please ask first. Compliments and constructive criticism accepted, flames will be met with a bucket of ice water! "Reminiscing" Ae fond kiss, and then we sever! Ae fareweel, and then forever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. She was gone. Well, perhaps not *gone*, but removed. Their bond, once so strong, was now severed. He could only faintly feel her through Nicholas, who was now technically her "master." How ironic, he mused, that it had been Nicholas, with all his high-flung ideals, who brought her back across. Who shall say that fortune grieves him While the star of hope she leaves him? Me, nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me, Dark despair around benights me. For only the second time in a thousand years, he felt almost completely alone. Only a handful of his children remained, and his favorites, his Janette and his Nicholas, were distancing themselves from each other, and thus from him. She had been his first child, and the loss of her made him grieve as he had not in eight hundred years. I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy, Naething could resist my Nancy; But to see her was to love her, Love but her, and love forever. Yes, over the centuries he *had* concentrated too much of his energy on Nicholas, who could never resist Janette either, even for the enticing Dr. Lambert. He had, Lacroix remembered, loved her from the moment he set eyes on her. Her courage and strength, her very *spirit*, none of it had been broken by her hellish mortal life. Together the two of them had spent centuries wandering Europe, searching out its mysteries, and discovering each other... Had we never loved sae kindly, Had we never loved sae blindly, Never met - or never parted, We had ne'er been broken-hearted. Nicholas. He sighed. Somehow, it always came back to his wayward son. >From the moment he and Janette had set eyes on the blond Crusader they had been lost. Nicholas (and later his sister Fleur, Lacroix now admitted) had the innocence he and Janette lacked. They then allowed him to become alpha and omega in their lives, thus forever ending the life they had shared before. What if, he pondered, they had never seen Nicholas? Would their idyll have broken so soon? Could someone else have come between them, and stolen their hearts, in the same way? Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest! Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest! Thine be ilka* joy and treasure, Peace, enjoyment, love, and pleasure! Lacroix shook his head, shruging off his reverie. What was done, was done. He could not change the past; he could, however, insure Janette's future happiness. Yes, he determined, if she wanted to stay away he would let her - for however long she wished. He would cater to her every fancy, indulge her every whim, deny her nothing. She will have whatever time she needs, he decided, and *nothing* will disturb her... *especially* not Nicholas. Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, alas, forever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. A small red tear escaped from the corner of his eye. His beautiful, passionate Janette was no longer completely his. She now belonged, in some part, to Nicholas, who *had never* and probably *would never* understand what he and Janette had shared. But then, Nicholas had never been all that understanding about relationships that did not involve him; he was selfish in that way. "Plus ca change Nicolas," he intoned, raising his glass to the empty room, "plus ca change." ---End--- *ilka=every Robyn/Amarantha Medea~~Josette@aol.com **NatPack**~Nanette loop-mommy~Valentine~Seducer~UA~UT~FKPagan~Celtic Glowworm~with multitudinous Ravenette tendancies~B5 fanatic~Susan&Talia(who is not *dead* damn it!)~ Delenn Deserves Better!
