Fleur and Lucien belongs to Pariott and Co. But who'll notice them missing, right? After all, they already put them in storage (sniff). Mild LK spoilers. All feedback and chocolate can be sent to Schattenjager@hotmail.com. (except for the nutty kind. Chocolate, I mean. Any kind of feedback. ;-) Reunion By Michelle David ***** Rose Karyn had been in the middle of the astronomy lecture when the message came from the central office. The students could not see it, but they saw the beautiful young woman's eyes widen as she read it. Rose had been in the middle of a sentence, and when she finally recovered after reading the message, she quickly said: "---which is why he is regarded as one of the most influential characters in the history of astronomy. Please read chapter four of your textbook for homework. Class dismissed." Kara looked at Rose curiously. Rose had always been her favorite teacher in terms of technique, actually- she had a real enthusiasm for the stars that none of her other teachers did not have for their subjects. And yet, she always had a sad, distant look on her face as a spoke. A sort of wistful longing as she talked about the sun, or an ironic smile. She was also never personal about her life, very quiet and subdued. None of her other teachers knew much about her, just that she had been there a couple of years and loved her job. After exiting the class, Kara hid behind the shadows- Ms. Karyn's class always took place at night, presumably so that if needed she could tell them what to do directly after the class was done, a clever strategy. Setting down her books, Kara looked in the window to the class. Rose had let her hair down from it's tight bun, and she finally noticed that Rose was really beautiful. Her hair was a dark gold, her clear eyes wide blue. Rose paced the room nervousoly, reading and rereading the message over and over again. Finally, she reached into her purse and pulled out a small bottle, downing its contents in one single gulp. "So she's an alcoholic," Kara muttered under her breath. "Interesting." Kara quickly stepped back into the shadows as a tall, imposing man walked by her, apparently too distracted to notice her. He entered, and Kara watched with interest what happened. The man was about six feet something, in comparison to Rose's five foot something. He was dressed entirely in black, with a short blond crewcut. He looked like he was riding the Gothic fashion wave, and yet it really did suit him. There was something in his coat which Kara couldn't catch. The man stood at the doorway, and called Rose's name. Rose spun around and simply stood there. "My love," she said softly. Kara rolled her eyes. God, how sappy. The man also simply stared. Finally, he whispered, "Fleur..." Kara raised he eyebrows. Fleur? Who was that? Rose stayed at her side of the room, and the man at his. The tension built up quickly, so thick that Kara was unnerved by it herself. Finally, Rose ran torwards the man, who caught her in his arms. They kissed passionately, and Kara watched with interest. Who was this man? Or really, who was Rose? Fleur? The two broke the embrace, and the man spoke quietly, calmly, his excitement still obvious. "Fleur... What are you doing here?" Rose/Fleur's face fell. "Teaching what I love, Lucien!" Lucien (?) sighed. "Fleur... I did not give you my gift for teaching." Kara frowned. Gift? Fleur broke the embrace and turned away. "Lucien... After over one hundred years apart, I have taken my own path." One hundred years!!! Someone around here was seriously whacked, and Kara was pretty sure it wasn't her. Lucien took the item from his coat- a white rose. He caressed the petals, and handed it to Fleur. Fleur was obviously touched. "Lucien-" she breathed. Fleur looked up and they kissed again. But this time, they did something that Kara was sure would traumatize her. Fleur's eyes became golden and her teeth became fangs, which she sunk into Lucien's throat, while Lucien did the same. They drank from each other for a little while, and Kara made a great effort to surpress the turmoil in her stomach. But she still watched the drama inside. Fleur returned to normal and simply kissed him on the cheek, and they laughed. Lucien's face suddenly turned grave. "Your brother..." he mummured. Fleur frowned. "What about Nichola?" she asked. Lucien made a hand gesture. "He's..." A single tear rolled down Fleur's face. Kara was not surprised that it was red. "How?" Fleur asked. Lucien sighed. "He fell in love with a woman. He took too much." "And?" Lucien was obviously having a hard time talking. "And, he... died." Another tear. "How?" "Right through the heart." Fleur broke down in tears, red streams pouring down her face in torrents. Kara even felt sorrow, Fleur's emotions were so passionate. Lucien attempted to comfort her, holding her close, not minding the stains that would most likely develop on his jacket from the tears. "Fleur... You know how he despised his life, this life, our life." Fleur nodded, sniffing pitifully. "And yet to lose my brother fills me with such sorrow..." "As it does us all." They simply stood there for about five minutes, embracing in the middle of the hall. Kara looked at them with interest. Lucien started. "I should go," he said softly. Fleur became distant again. "Goodbye," she said softly, kissing him one last time. "Will you be all right?" "Yes, I'll manage. Don't worry." As Lucien left, Kara ducked again. And Fleur sat at her desk, pulled out another bottle, which Kara finally recognized as blood, but this one took her until six in the morning to drain. And then she stood, scopped up the forgotten white rose, and left. ***** The next day, after the lecutre, Kara stayed after, waiting patiently for the other students to disperse. The speech that night had been one of unusual enthusiasm, with Fleur delivering her lecture flawlessly. Surely all of her students had been impressed- Kara certainly was. "Yes, Miss?" asked Fleur, smiling cheerfully. For an instant, Kara wondered if last night had been simply a dream. But the white rose now stood in an antique vase on her desk, evidence of the other night. Kara smiled. "Nothing... Fleur." Fleur grabbed her hand with supernatural strength. "How did you know?" she rasped. "I saw you last night, I stayed over." Fleur frowned. "And... I brought you a gift." Kara opened her backpack, and found the wine bottle, handing it to the woman. Fleur examined the bottle. "AB!" she said, laughing softly. "How did you get it?" Kara shrugged. "I work part time in a blood bank." Fleur thanked her, but then her face grew serious. "Miss..." "Kara's fine." "Kara. You must _not_ let anyone know of what I am. Can you promise me this?" Kara nodded sincerely. "You can trust me, Fleur." ***** The end (???)
