I am making no money off of this. This is purely for fun. I wish I could say that about the present Forever Knight situation. Solitary Thoughts by Bari Tracy sighed as she overlooked the mounds of paperwork slated on her desk. In all of her efforts to finish her work, very little was being accomplished. Paperwork was tedious at best, but unaprochable when something nagged at the better part of the brain. But What? That's what Nick Knight had asked her nearly a week now. 'What's bothering you Tracy?' His protectiveness had been inferiating. She wanted to just throw a fit and shout to the whole world: "I'm infatuated with a member of the undead! OK? Are you happy now? Does it make you feel any better knowing I want to screw a guy who's been dead for a few hundred years? Huh?" No, that wouldn't work anything out. 'Get a hold on yourself, Tracy.' came the rational answer. She sipped her coffee and grimiced. It was icy cold and bland to taste. "VETTER!" rose a voice over the din of the station, "Get in here!" 'Great,' sighed Tracy, 'I've gone and done something wrong headed again.' "Yes Capt?" she asked meekly. Joe Reese smiled mildly at his rookie detective. "Tracy, I want you to go home and get some sleep. All of us get in a rut sometimes, so get off yer butt and go home." "No sir, please let me stay. I'll get back to work, I promise!" "No Tracy, that's enough." snapped Reese. "Go Home!" Like a puppy who had just gotten punished for chewing the furniture, Tracy left work limply walking and keeping her head down. On the drive home, Tracy stopped at a coffee shop for a latte. Sure, it wasn't the usual, but hell, had this been a normal week? She started drinking, but she soon drowned in her own thoughts. She and Vachon had been talking about family life after Tracy's dad had called and reminded her of the upcomming family reunion. On that same day, her aunt and uncle would be celabrating their 30 wedding anniversary. "What did you get them?" he asked. "Some silverware or a candy bowl that looks like a fish?" Tracy shot him a wary glance. "I got them a glass plate with a psalm engraved on it. But that's not the point. I can't believe that the've been togeather for that long." Vachon looked at her and blinked. "Well, how long do people usually stay togeather?" he asked. Tacy stared blankly at the wall. "Oh, I don't know. People meet, they feel something, they get to know each other, and then one person won't make the committment, and then they split up." Vachon just eyed her disbelievingly. "Com'on Tracy! How many people end up like that?" Tracy's eyes saddened and her body went slack. "My parents were like that, you know. I guess I'm just turning out like my mother." The realization of her meaning hit Vachon like a load of bricks. "This is about us right?" 'Duh!' thought Tracy. "Ya Vachon, this is about us." Vachon was speechless. He glanced out the window and saw his escape. "The sun's about to rise, I gotta go." He caressed her cheek and kissed her forehead. "We'll finish this later." Then he was gone. Now as she reflected on the previous night, she wondered if that was the way to tell him. Pinning down a tiger wasn't always the way to make him tame. Why was everything so hard with him? No, not everything. Just the 'r' word. RESPONCABILTY. She gathered her emotional baggage and headed home. Alone. Bari: Two words: Finials Suck!
