I don't usually write anything, however, Jamie and I have been corresponding about this and that, and after the discussion about stereotypes on the spoiler list, wherein Jamie said: "...."Anyone who wants to slam tattooed fanfic writers with fifth-grade educations in retribution, go right ahead!" Now, I don't like to slam anybody :) but I can't resist a direct challange which I received from Jamie... to whit: " :)...Now THERE'S a challenge, eh? :-) ;-) So, In Honor of Jamie, I Present: ------------------------------------------------- Stereotypes.... Nightcrawler: Tonight, my children, let us discuss stereotypes.... Nick was waiting for Tracy. They were supposed to go check out some information about a recent crime. His back to the door, he was concentrating on reading the print-out. Abruptly, Nick was knocked to his knees by a horde of young children. "Sorry, mister!" "Hey! Look-out..." Picking himself up, he turned to see Nat standing there grinning at him. "Who are these children", he snarled, "and WHAT are they doing here?!!!" Laughing, Nat replied, "Oh, Nick, don't be so fussy...they're just children! They are all in fifth grade, doing an evening field trip. Didn't you see the memo from the Captain?" "No, I didn't!" Nick huffed. Becoming aware of suppressed snickers through-out the office, Nick turned and stalked away. "Darn", thought Nick, "fifth-graders have no respect" ... Spotting Tracy, he hustled her out the door. Nightcrawler: "Stereotypes indicate a lack of respect... of thought, if you will. Judging by a single episode, and applying generalities to a situation can be very damaging." Walking down the street with Tracy, looking for the new information source they had recruited, Nick was thinking. "Well I suppose All fifth-graders weren't that bad, they were probably excited at getting to tour a police station. I'll just have to keep an open mind on the subject." "Hey, Nick, isn't that our new snitch over there?" Tracy spoke. "That person over there with the tattoos??" Nick looked. "Yes, Tracy, it is. I.... I didn't realize our snitch was so.... 'colorful'. Those tattoos weren't visible yesterday." Walking up to the snitch, he was unprepared for the wild scream and sudden attack. The snitch was all over him, beating on his chest, yelling "leave me alone, leave me alone...... I'll kill you...." Tracy, vainly attempting to pry the snitch off of Nick, was knocked down to the sidewalk when Nick threw his attacker off. The former snitch, screaming wildly, disappeared down the alley. Nick picked himself up off the sidewalk, and snapped "Well, that was interesting! Knocked down twice in one evening, I knew I didn't like tattooed people!" Nightcrawler: "Stereotypes are very dangerous to one's way of thinking. They color your perceptions, they affect your actions..." Nick went back to the Precinct station to see if he could find any other sources of leads. Tracy had gone to check on another source. Probably Vachon. Stopping by his desk, he noticed a folder marked "Please read". Opening up the folder, he was taken aback to read a title page with the legend "Mosquitos and Toothpicks". "What on earth...?" Glancing through it, he was appalled to see it dealt with vampiric mosquitos! How in h*** did *anyone* know about... "Hi! I see you found it!" spoke a voice from next his elbow. "I was wondering if you would be willing to autograph that for me... I write fanfic, um.. fan fiction, and..." Nick whirled on the speaker. His face set, he hissed - "No, I will not sign that! It must be destroyed!" The autograph seeker was taken aback. "All I wanted..." Nick, suppressing fury, snarled "This....is...dangerous! No!" The fan fiction writer lost her cool. "Darn you! I slaved over that story! Why... why... You Beast!" Snatching a dictionary off the next desk, she whacked Nick on the side of the head, knocking him to the floor. Whirling, she stalked off. Nick groaned, and picked himself off the floor. "Spare me from fan fiction authors. They're all rabid!" Nightcrawler: "So you see, my children, stereotypes are dangerous. If one didn't know better, one would think it dangerous to trust any persons with fifth-grade educations and tattoos, who write fan-fiction....." --------------------------------------- Comments, flames (please, nooooooo - this is only the second thing I've ever written.... but, gulp, if you must...), responses of any type... to me Sherri sherric@empnet.com
