Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 1 Nick looked up as his partner walked over to his desk. The worried look on her face made it obvious that something was bothering her. "Nick we have a problem. There's been a murder downtown. A priest. According to officer at the scene, the victim was drained of all his blood and there were bite marks on his body." Nick put the report he was reading down. "And? It sounds like they already have officers on the scene." "Well, Someone remembered the work you did on that Vampire case a couple of years ago and they specifically requested we be assigned to this one." Nick sighed. Just what he needed. If it turned out to be a real vampire doing the killing, he and Tracy would have to do a lot of fast talking to cover it up. Grabbing his coat he walked out of the station. When they arrived at the scene, Natalie had already finished. Nick walked over to her. "Hi, Nat. What do you have for us." Natalie wiped a stray hair back into place. "Death was caused by exsanguination. The victim definitely put up a fight. There a bruises all over his body. The teeth marks seem to indicate there were at least 3 people who bit him." Natalie looked around then lowered her voice. "There are no signs that this was the work of a vampire." Nick looked at the body. Sure enough, the teeth marks were all human. None of them bore the double punctures that would indicate a feeding vampire. Tracy gave a soft sigh of relief. "At least we don't have that to worry about." She whispered. "No all we have to worry about is a group of psychotics who think they're vampires. That's just as bad for the community." Nick replied. Tracy winced. "I didn't think about that." She admitted. As Nick and Tracy walked into the Station, they were called into Captain Reese's office. "OK, people, what have we got this time?" "Father William Pratt. Age 66. He was apparently killed at his home just before midnight. No witnesses, several partial prints. One of the killers wrote a quote from the bible on the wall. That's all we have to go on." Nick summarized what they had learned. "Great I can just see the headlines now. _Vampires Kill Local Priest." Reese hated the thought of what the papers would do to this story. "They're going to turn this into a circus." "We've contact the F.B.I., Scotland Yard and Interpol for any similiar cases, hopefully these people have a record." Tracy tried to reassure Captain Reese. "I just hope we can get them before they do this again." Reese said. F.B.I. Headquarters The two agents walked down the hallway to their bosses office. The female agent was glaring at her taller counterpart. "What did you do _now_ Mulder?" Agent Mulder turned to his partner. "I swear Scully, I haven't done anything in the last 4 days to warrant us being called in again." Agent Dana Scully looked at him sideways for a moment "Nothing?" "Nothing." Now Scully looked concerned. "Then what does he want to see us for?" "Maybe the Cancerman decided to turn himself in." "Mulder. Get serious." "I am serious Scully, It's entirely possible that he might have had an attack of conscience and decided to come clean." Scully snorted "Sure and maybe I'll take Frohicke's proposal seriously" "Too much to ask for huh?" "What. the Cancerman giving up?" "No, Frohicke's proposal" Scully whacked her partner in the arm, just before they entered Assistant Director Skinner's office. A.D. Walter Skinner looked at his two agents with some concern. He waved both agents to sit. Then quickly got to business. Passing over a pair of folder he began explaining. "Agents Mulder and Scully, as of right now you are being temporarily reassigned to the VCS unit." At the sudden protests from the pair, Skinner elaborated. "This is not an attempt to close the X- files. The Canadian government has requested our aid in apprehending a group of serial killers and because of Agent Mulder's earlier work on this group the State dept. decided to loan the two of you to Canada." Mulder looked at the files that Skinner had passed over to them. Inside was a complete account of the murder in Toronto. "John the same as the Trinity case. But they were all presumed killed when the Kirla woman's house burned down." "I know, but the M.O. matches the Trinity killings. And there was never a positive Id on the bodies." "Excuse me sir." Scully interrupted. "But I'm not familiar with this case." "It happened while you were missing." Mulder explained. Scully listened in silence as Mulder gave her the details of the case. When he was done she sat there. "Mulder, even coming from you, that has to be the most unbelievable thing I've ever heard." "Actually Scully, this time I have reliable corroborative witnesses. Including the local pathologist." "In any case," Mulder continued. "It looks like we're temporarily heading north." Skinner simply stared at the two as they left the office. He thought. As the two walked back to their basement office, Scully grabbed Mulder's arm. "Talk Mulder. What's up?" "I dunno Scully. the Sky?" Mulder replied. "Very funny Mulder. Now why didn't you object to this assignment." They walked into the X-files office, Mulder pulled a small file from the mess on his desk. "Read this." Scully opened up the folder and began to read aloud "New York. 1984 , Three murders. Victims were decapitated with a razor sharp instrument probably a sword or an axe. Suspects, Russell Nash and Victor Kurgen. Nash was later cleared by a witness. Suspect Victor Kurgen found beheaded in an old apartment building. Nash dissappeared without a trace." Scully looked over at Mulder. "And?" "Keep reading." "Calgary, Canada. 1991 Three decapitations, no suspects. Case never closed." "Try the next one." "Toronto, Canada 1996. Mulder this was dated 4 months ago." Mulder looked enthusiastic. "Four killings all decapitations. Again no suspects. But the officer's in charge came up with and interesting theory." "That the victims were engaged in some kind of duel. Mulder, this is the 20th century not Camelot. You can't honestly believe that there's a renegade branch of the SCA going around actually killing each other with swords?" "I don't know Scully but in the last decade, there have been mysterious decapitations all across the globe." "But there are unsolved deaths every day Mulder what makes you think these are connected?" "The other deaths didn't have reports of freak energy displays accompanying them. These three sets do." Scully shook her head. Mulder was not going to let go of this until he had some answers. "Just promise me one thing, Mulder?" "Anything, Scully." "Don't run off in the middle of the case, just because you got a hot tip on the decapitations. I don't want to have to explain to Skinner how we caused an International incident." "I promise Scully." Mulder answered as he walked out the door. Scully raced to catch up to her partner. "Captain?" Nick's head poked in Reese's office. "We got a reply to the query on the Pratt case." Captain Reese took the fax from Nick. "Say's here the FBI is sending two agents to assist in the case. We're to afford them every courtesy." "According to the report. The senior agent , Mulder, investigated a similar case in California last year" "We need all the help we can get on this one." "Tell me about it." Nick agreed. The next night, Nick and Natalie were heading into the office when Nick noticed two figures dressed in black trenchcoats, waiting at Nick's desk. They spotted him and walked over. "Nat? Are they?" Natalie looked at them for a second as they got closer she didn't feel the characteristic buzz that announced the presence of an immortal. "Nope, maybe it's a fashion statement." "Detective Knight? I'm Special Agent Mulder and this is my Partner Special Agent Scully. We're the help the FBI promised you. Your captain described you to us." Nick shook the agents hands then introduced Natalie. "This is Dr. Lambert, she's the police pathologist." Scully smiled at Natalie. "I'm glad to meet you Doctor Lambert. I'd like to go over the forensic's reports and check the body if you don't mind." "Not at all Agent Scully..." Natalie began. "Good, I'll follow you there. Coming Mulder?" "No I think I'll just stay here and discuss the case with Det. Knight." "All Right." Scully and Natalie headed for Natalie's office. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 2 Scully finished reading the forensics report. Putting it down she removed the cloth covering the body. Picking up the recorder she began taking her own notes. "Victim is a 66 year old man of African descent. The cause of death is exsanguination. The Victim shows multiple bite marks, most notably on the exterior jugular vein." She began measuring the bite marks. The differences in the bite radius of the wounds would indicate that there were at least 3 assailants. Bruising around the arms would indicate the victim was forcibly restrained. Multiple puncture wounds seem to be from a large bore hypodermic needle. Possibly a veterinary needle." Scully pulled the sheet back over the victims body. "Skinner was right. This is almost identical to the Trinity murders." Natalie who had been watching from her desk, leaned forward as Scully finished her examination. "Skinner?" "Our boss, the assistant director of the F.B.I." "So, did you discover anything new?" "No, everything is just as you wrote it in your report Dr. Lambert" "Call me Natalie, Agent Scully." Scully smiled. "You can call me Dana, just don't call Mulder Fox, he hates it." Nick and Mulder were going over the police report on the Pratt murder, as well as the file that Mulder had brought with him from D.C.. "I don't see how it could be the same three killers, your own report indicates that they were killed in the fire." "Yes but the reports were inconclusive. The bodies were so badly charred that no positive ID could be made." Mulder flipped to the back of the file. "The only positive ID was of the owner of the house. Miss Kristen Kilar." Mulder turned to look at Nick. "Detective Knight, Do you believe in vampires?" Nick simply stared at Mulder. "Why do you ask?" "Because I need you to have an open mind about this. I believe that the trinity are vampires, in the truest sense of the word." Nick fought to keep the smile off his face. The right corner of his mouth kept twitching upwards. Mulder saw the tell tale movements. "You don't believe me." "I believe that you honestly think these three are vampires." Nick managed to say with a straight face." "But you don't think they are." Mulder insisted. "Hi, Nick." Tracy said as she walked over. "So who's this and what's so funny?" Nick introduced Mulder to his partner then said. "Agent Mulder believes that the three individuals that killed Father Pratt are vampires." "Oh." Tracy placed her hand over her face to hide her grin. Mulder looked at the two partners. It was obvious to him that they were both trying hard not to laugh. He realized. "During the California incident. I witnessed one of the suspects being exposed to sunlight. He suffered third degree burns over his body. There was no heartbeat and he was declared dead. Less than a day later, the same person almost killed me at the Kilar house. If that isn't a vampire, it'll do until a real one comes along." Mulder's words had a startling effect on Tracy and Nick. Both them stopped smiling and look slightly sick. Mulder thought. Finally Nick managed to speak. "So do you have any ideas on how to catch them?" "Yes, they have an intense craving for blood. Since killing draws too much attention, they'll probably be working at a blood bank or similar facility to provide themselves with what they need." Nick nodded. "I'll have our people begin checking all the local hospitals and blood banks for new people." "In the meantime I need your help in finding a possible target. A miss Theresa Ryan." Nick almost choked on his words. "Theresa Ryan the author? Why would they be after her?" "One father, one son, one holy spirit. That's the pattern that the killers follow. For them a holy spirit is one who can believe in the possibility of the existence of a vampire. A _true believer_ , miss Ryan's books make her a very tempting target for them." Mulder held up one a small paperback. The cover showed a young man in a denim jacket and slacks hiding from a group of people. If you looked closely you could see the fangs in his mouth. "Hunter's Night" by Theresa Ryan was displayed on the cover of the book. "Theresa Ryan is a friend of Natalie's" Nick admitted. "I think she's currently at the Dark Worlds Bookshop giving a reading from one of her novels." Mulder smiled "So, why don't we pay her a visit?" The bookstore was moderately crowded. It had been done in modern Gothic style. "Looks like a scene from Batman." Mulder remarked as they entered the store. Arched columns and dark wood bookcases gave the impression of an old library. The only concession to commercialism were the signs telling you what was on each shelf. Nick spotted Theresa signing autographs at a small table in the center of the store. "Nick!" Theresa smiled as Nick interrupted. "What brings you here? I thought you didn't like vampire novels." "Business. I was wondering if we could talk to you when you were finished?" "Sure, why don't you wait with Aaron. He's around here somewhere." Theresa looked around the store, finally she spotted her husband. "There over in the fantasy section." Nick looked over. Aaron was browsing through a tall bookcase. From where Nick was standing it looked like he was trying not to laugh. "I would have thought he would be right next to you." "No, he only shows up at these, to listen to me read from my books. I think they turn him on a little." Her eyes had a mischievous glint to them. "But once I'm done reading, the crowd tends to make him nervous." Nick looked at the people waiting in line to get Theresa's autograph. Several of them were wearing fake fangs and dressed in capes. Nick thought as he found only two of them were vampires. The rest just dressed the part. "I know how he feels. I'll see you in a little bit then?" "Ok," Theresa laughed as she turned back to signing the young _Vampiresses_ book. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 3 As Nick walked over he could see Aaron had picked up a book. He noticed Aaron's shoulder shaking and as he got closer could hear Aaron's muted laughter. "Something funny?" Aaron turned to Nick, he held up the book so Nick could see the cover. Nick didn't recognize the title or the author, but he could see what was causing Aaron to laugh. The cover showed a nearly naked warrior swinging a huge axe. That in itself wasn't funny, what was funny was that the axe was larger than the warrior and was being wielded one handed. "Sometimes I look at these covers and get the image of an artist who's never held a weapon in his life going _Sure, that's possible._ while making these ridiculous covers." Aaron grinned. Nick grinned back for a moment. Aaron looked over to where Tracy and Mulder were standing. "Who's the guy with your partner?" "His name is Fox Mulder. He's a special agent for the FBI." Nick replied. "Out of his jurisdiction isn't he?" "He's assisting us on a murder case. The new vampire killings." "Great," Aaron muttered. His sense of humor gone. "So what's he doing here?" "He thinks that the killers might go after Theresa." "Really?" The disbelief was evident in Aaron's voice. "What gives him that idea?" "Seems the killers always go after a _true believer_, He thinks that Theresa qualifies." Aaron began laughing. Silently at first but finally he had to leave the shop before people began staring. Nick followed him outside. Aaron was leaning against the wall. Tears of laughter streaked down his face. Slowly they subsided. "If those idiots go after Theresa, you're going to need a squeegee to clean them up off the floor." "I hope Theresa doesn't hurt them to badly. It would make filling out reports very awkward." "Theresa!?" Aaron stared. "I was talking about me. They lay one hand on her and I'll rip their hearts out." Nick sighed. Inside the building he could see Agent Mulder speaking to Theresa. From the way Theresa was holding her hand over her mouth . She was trying not to laugh at Agent Mulder's theory. "So how long have you and Agent Mulder been partners?" Natalie asked Scully as the two of them sat down for a break. "About 4 years. Although sometimes it seems longer." "Are you two more than just partners?" "No." Scully blushed a little. "We're not involved with each other. We are best friends but that is as far as it goes." "Uh huh." "Honestly." Scully said. The look Natalie had given her was one she had seen many times before. She tried to change the subject. "How long have you known Detective Knight?" "About 6 years." Natalie smiled as she took a sip from her coffee "Just before he joined Metro." "And how did you meet?" "Oh, I was working on my birthday and he came in. I forget what for." Natalie temporized. "And it was love at first sight I'll bet." Scully was smiling. "No, I wouldn't say that." She thought. "Hi ladies, mind if we join you?" Mulder interrupted their conversation. "Mulder, any luck on your end?" Scully asked. "No, I don't think Miss Ryan took me very seriously." Mulder said as he sat down. "Mulder tell me you didn't tell her your theory." Scully remarked. "Ok, I didn't tell Miss Ryan my theory." Mulder agreed. Scully rolled her eyes to stare at the ceiling for a moment. She prayed silently. "Mulder seems to thing that the perps really are vampires. And that they might go after Terry." Nick explained to Natalie. Natalie nearly choked on her coffee at Nick's words. "You really think that Agent Mulder?" "I know what I've seen, Dr. Lambert. As I told Detective Knight, if they aren't vampires, they'll do until something better comes along." Natalie looked over at Nick who was giving her his most innocent look. Finally she began to laugh. "I'm sorry Agent Mulder. But I just can't accept that." "So you don't believe in vampires Dr. Lambert?" Mulder insisted. "You could say that I have trouble believing that these murders were the work of blood sucking fiends." "But you can accept possibility that there are such things as vampires?" Scully asked. "Let's just say I have an open mind." Natalie finished. Nick decided to break things up before someone, maybe him, said something they'd regret. "Agents Mulder, Scully. I'm sorry to break this up. But Natalie and I are already off shift and we both need to be going." Mulder barely looked up as he nodded. Turning to Scully he began to discus how to approach the killers once they were discovered. As Nick and Natalie walked out to Nick's Caddie, Nick noticed a man standing in the shadows. He was carrying a camera and was taking great pains not to be seen. If Nick's vision weren't so different from a normal humans, he might not have seen the man. As it was the man seemed confident that he was safe. Nick suddenly paused. "Nat, I forgot my notebook. I'll be right back." He turned and ran back to the building. Once he was out of sight he put on a burst of speed and caught the man by surprise. Natalie had been waiting by the Caddie when the sounds of a struggle caught her attention. Heading over to the alleyway she saw Nick holding someone against the wall by the throat. As she got closer she saw the camera and realized the person must have been spying on them. "Who are you?" Nick almost hissed the words. He was struggling to keep his face normal. "Why are you taking those pictures? Why are you spying on us?" As the gray haired man gave off a choking gasp, Natalie decided to intervene. "Nick, He might be able to answer you if you stop squeezing his neck." Nick looked at the man and saw that he was turning red. As he released his grip the man sucked air into his oxygen starved lungs. Holding his hands in front of him in a warding motion the man gasped out. "I didn't mean anything by it. I was just getting some pictures." Nick pulled the man to his feet. Searching him he found a small card. "Daniel Cohen Photography Studios" was embossed on the card. "You're a watcher!" Natalie said suddenly remembering that Aaron had called his watcher Daniel. "Aaron told you huh?" Daniel's voice was resigned. "Yeah, I'm assigned to both of you until you finish your training." Nick relaxed a little. "Sorry, things have been difficult lately." "I can imagine." Daniel said. "How did you move so fast?" Before Nick could open his mouth, Daniel suddenly got a frightened look in his eyes. Nick stared at Daniel Nick thought. "Look I won't say anything. OK? You don't have to hypnotize me or whatever it is you do to keep people from talking." Natalie was floored by Daniel's remark. "How do you know that Nick is..." "A vampire." Daniel finished. "Theresa told me quite a bit about them." "And she let you alone?" Nick asked. "It was either that or risk having a new watcher find out anyway. Besides I guess they felt grateful." "Grateful?" Nick couldn't understand what Daniel was talking about. "It's like this. They spotted me early on. After that I just tagged along with them. Then one day..." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ West Berlin, Germany. 1975 Daniel watched as Aaron and Theresa walked along the boulevard. To anyone else they seemed your average couple. But he knew better. Daniel shook his head. He'd only just been assigned to the Aaron after his previous watcher had died in a car accident. He was still following them at a discrete distance when a car suddenly barreled down the deserted street. Narrowly missing the two, it pulled to a stop. Four men armed with crossbows stepped out. Daniel watched in shock as Theresa lunged at one of the men only to be driven back by a _Cross_? Another of the men was trying to hold Aaron down. As Aaron broke free, a bolt appeared in his chest. Theresa's scream of rage wasn't human and for a moment all of the assailants pulled back. The men surrounded Theresa, one of the lit a large torch. Daniel couldn't stand by and watch that happen. He came up behind them. Bending over he pulled the bolt from Aaron's chest and used it as a makeshift dagger. Stabbing the man with the torch, Daniel caused him to drop it into the gutter. Two of the remaining three men turned to deal with their new assailant. "This doesn't concern you." One of the men snarled. "She's a child of Satan and must be destroyed." Daniel didn't bother to reply he simply launched himself at the men. If he could buy enough time, Aaron would be able to deal with them. One of the men pulled him up against the wall, the other pulled a small ax from under his coat. As Daniel watched the ax was pulled back. The blow never landed. As Daniel watched the body fall, he saw Aaron standing there. He'd run the man through from behind. Turning he advanced on the one with the cross. "You've got two choices." Aaron said. "You can try to stop me from killing, or you can keep that cross on my wife. Either way one of us is going to kill you." The man that had been holding Daniel let go and tried to stop Aaron. Aaron didn't even pause as he thrust backwards and skewered the man on his blade. The man with the cross panicked and tried to run. In an instant Theresa was on him. Her fangs out, she drained him. After it was over, Aaron walked over to Daniel "Thank's for your help." Theresa smiled her fangs still showing. "I owe you my life. Now what do I do with you?" Daniel fainted. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Natalie laughed at the ending. "Let me guess when you woke up they told you if you ever told anyone about Theresa, they'd kill you." Daniel shook his head. "Nope, they told me that they owed me their lives and that they were going to trust me. That I was only the third of Aaron's watchers entrusted with Theresa's secret. I just wish that they had warned me about him." Daniel nodded to Nick. "What would you have done?" Nick asked. "Just walked up and introduced yourself as a watcher." "Beats getting strangled in a dark alley" Daniel replied. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 4 The next night Nick waited as Agent Mulder set up the VCR and Monitor in the conference room. Tracy, Natalie and several officers were also there. Agent Mulder had wanted to show them several tapes of the only suspect caught in the California murders. "The suspects name was John, last name unknown. He called himself the Son. According to their belief they were an Unholy Trinity, Father, Son, and Unholy spirit." Mulder paused the picture. On the screen a young man about medium build with long dark hair stared at Mulder from the floor. "I attempted to play to what I thought was the victim's psychosis, placing him in a cell with a window. I assumed that when threatened with sunlight, he would tell me where the others were. Instead..." Mulder pressed play. The video cut to an autopsy room, the badly burned body of the young man was laid out on a table. "This is the suspect after exposure to less than a minute of sunlight." Several officers left the room in a rush. Mulder paused the tape to wait for their return. Scully saw Nick, Tracy and Natalie looking at each other very uncomfortably. "Mulder I really think you're losing them." She whispered to her partner. It was obvious that the officers had a hard time believing what Mulder told them. Once everyone had gotten seated again, Mulder continued the tape. "The suspect believes he is a true vampire." The tape was now showing a scene from the classic Bela Lugosi version of Dracula. "This belief manifests itself in many ways. They smash every mirror in the house because they don't believe that they can be seen in mirrors." The tape now cut to the scene from Lost Boys were the male lead had started to fade from sight. "They abhor bright lights. The suspect even claimed the fluorescent lights of the interrogation room were killing him." Scully looked around the room again. Several of the officers were grinning. The worst of the lot was Detective Knight, he seemed to be holding his laughter in by the sheer force of his hand over his mouth. Stopping the tape she whispered in Mulder's ear. "Mulder, just finish the report without the video OK?" Mulder looked hurt, then saw the grins on the officer's faces. "All right Scully" He sighed. "The suspects will probably be working in some form of blood industry. So concentrate most of your inquiries to blood banks, hospitals etc. You are looking for someone that just started the night shift in the last month or so. If you discover such a person do not, repeat do not approach them without backup. They should be considered extremely dangerous." As the officers filed out the room, Mulder saw Nick making a quick exit out of the building. He was soon followed by Tracy and Natalie. "What got into them?" he asked Scully. "Mulder if you don't know, I'm not telling you." Scully replied as she grabbed her partner's arm and practically dragged him out of the room. As Nick left the building he began laughing. His laughter increased when Natalie and Tracy, tears streaming down their faces joined him. "Sorry Nick, I just couldn't help myself." Tracy managed to gasp out. "All I could see was Vachon's look when I rented Lost Boys for him to watch." Nick managed to get a hold of himself. "I know, it happens to me everytime I watch a vampire film." "Not Interview" Natalie reminded him. "No but that one is so close to how it is, its just scary." Nick admitted. "Nat.." Tracy asked. "Is it possible that the killers really are vampires?" Natalie shook her head. "I went over everything. There were fang marks present. No trace of the feeding enzyme that shows up when a vampire drains someone. There was nothing that said this was a vampire killing." Nick nodded. "But that doesn't explain the 3rd degree burns on the suspect. And if agent Mulder is to be believed, he saw the suspect alive and kicking the next night. Strange." "Strange is not the word for it." Tracy agreed. "What if, I don't know. What if they're some kind of mutation? A variation on the original vampire strain?" Natalie nodded "That might explain the differences, of course I'd need a blood sample to compare with Nick's." "We'd need the blood for a DNA match anyway." Nick said. The three of them stood contemplating the turmoil that a new breed of vampires would cause the community. Nick thought Nick leaned back into his chair, 2 hours of calls had gotten them very little in the way of information. Most of them could only promise to call back. Now all they could do was wait. Natalie walked up and tapped Nick on the shoulder. "Ready to head home?" Nick looked at his watch. "You're a little early tonight." Natalie smiled "Slow day at the office. Thank god." "We're still waiting on all the return calls. So far nothing." Just then the phone rang. Mulder got to it before anyone else. "Mulder here." He started writing something down in his note book. Mulder got off the phone "Detective Night, Detective Vetter. That was the last of our inquiries. Only one Blood Bank has hired a new night person in the last month. We're going to check it out." Tracy headed for the door as Nick gave Natalie a quick kiss goodbye. "See you." "Watch out for Tracy." Natalie said smiling. "Not worried about me?" "You can take of yourself." Natalie replied. Nick grinned "I'm sure Tracy will overjoyed to hear how confident you are in her abilities." Natalie whacked Nick's back as he turned to join Tracy. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 5 Mulder wandered around the darkened blood storage unit. The potential suspect, a David Ross, wasn't off that night. Detective Knight had gone to the personnel office with the Hospital Administrator to pull his picture and records from the hospital employee files. As far as Mulder could see there were no signs of anyone feeding off the blood stored at the unit. "Mulder over here." Scully was standing in front of a small cabinet. As Mulder walked over he could see Scully was holding a small container of some kind. Mulder peered into the container. Inside were several empty blood storage bags. The type used for transfusion. Each had been torn open and the contents removed. "I'd say we have our man." Mulder remarked. Scully looked at the bags then back a Mulder. "I'd say that's a safe bet." Nick entered the unit to see Tracy and Scully carefully dusting several bloody plastic bags. The smell was almost overpowering and with great effort he managed to keep his control. "Found something?" Mulder, who had been going through every drawer and cabinet in the unit nodded. "Looks like Ross is one of them." Nick held up a folder. "We have a photograph and his address. What do you say we pay him a visit?" Mulder took the folder from Nick and examined the picture. "That's our man all right. Let's go" Nick knocked on David Ross's apartment door. "Mr. Ross. Mr. Ross, this is Detective Knight with Metro PD. Will you please open the door?" Tracy waited. Then, when there was no response, drew her gun. Nick pulled his own and prepared to open the door with the duplicate key provided by the resident manager. "Ready?" Tracy swallowed then nodded. Opening the door the two officers quickly entered the room. They executed a quick search of the main room then began to enter the bedroom. Inside the bedroom they were met by Scully and Mulder who had come in up the fire escape. "Doesn't look like anyone's home." Mulder remarked. He began searching the bedroom. "Hmm, seems that he likes to go the nightclubs." Mulder picked up a small matchbook and tossed it to Nick. Nick looked at the matchbook for a moment. "It figures." he muttered. Then he turned and walked back into the main room. "What figures? What is it Nick?" Tracy asked. Nick handed her the matchbook. "Our suspect thinks he's a vampire, so naturally where does he like to hang out?" Tracy looked up from the matchbook. "The Raven. Great." Mulder walked out from the bedroom. "Nothing else in there. How about out here." Nick looked around. "We haven't had a chance to check yet." Mulder shrugged. "Chances are it'll be clean. Why don't we leave that for the uniforms and check out this club." Nick tried to change Mulder's mind. "It isn't guaranteed that he's a regular at that club." "Actually it was on my list." Mulder replied. "List?" Tracy asked. "Yes, I compiled a list of clubs that might attract the type of people we're after. The Raven was on that list." Mulder ticked off several names. Nick recognized some of the names. So did Tracy. Each was a club that vampires liked to "Hang out" in. Mulder continued. "Anyway since we have tentative evidence that indicates he goes to the Raven. We might as well start there." Nick could do nothing but agree. Once at the Raven a plan of action was quickly agreed upon. Since the suspect might recognize Mulder, it was decided that he and Agent Scully would watch the Exits. Nick and Tracy would go into the club and look around. "Hello Nicholas, Detective Vetter. What brings you to my humble establishment tonight?" LaCroix smiled. "Business or pleasure?" "LaCroix." Nick whispered. "Have you ever seen this person here before?" LaCroix looked at the photograph. "Business then? And if I have? What interest is it of mine?" "We think he's one of the people that killed the priest." "Ah! yes the _vampire_ killing. I believe the papers called it. Honestly Nicholas, don't you find such sensationalism a trifle lurid? And Detective Vetter, If you don't mind. I find that someone staring at me a most annoying sensation." Tracy, who had been staring a LaCroix the way a bird stares at a snake, blushed and glanced around trying to spot Vachon. "I don't believe that our young Spaniard is here tonight." LaCroix said, noting Tracy's search. "As for your suspect. I believe he is sitting in the in that corner over there." LaCroix nodded to a darkened section of the club. "Thank you LaCroix." "I am not doing this for your benefit Nicholas. I simply dislike having attention drawn to the community as a whole and to myself in particular. Detective" With a nod to Tracy LaCroix walked away. Tracy followed Nick to the table where that LaCroix had indicated. Sitting alone, David Ross made no indication that he was aware of their presence. "David Ross?" Nick asked. "I'd like to have a few words with you." Ross suddenly jumped to his feet swinging a large hunting knife. The knife hit Nick in the stomach as Tracy drew her gun. Nick pulled away stepping deeper into the shadows to hide the wound until it had healed. "Drop the knife!" Tracy shouted. By this time the entire club was watching. Seeing the gun, the more timid customers decided that the party was over and it was time to leave. "You don't think that I'm afraid of that toy are you?" The large man sneered. As he advanced on Tracy, she fired once. The bullet hit just above the knee, dropping Ross in his tracks. At the gunshot the club cleared instantly. Mulder and Scully fought to gain entrance to the club. But they could make no headway against the outgoing tide of people. Inside the club, Tracy suddenly found herself surrounded by vampires. One, the Enforcer from Vachon's place, stopped the others. "I suppose that you can explain this?" "He's a suspect in the killing of a Priest. When my partner tried to arrest him, he drew knife and wouldn't stop." The female vampire looked at the others then nodded. "This does not concern us." She turned and seemed to vanish. Nick pulled Ross into a chair. "I want you to remain in this chair. No matter what, you will not move until I tell you to." His voice had an almost hypnotic quality to it. "I won't move." Ross's voice seemed distant. "You have to teach me that." Tracy whispered to her partner. Mulder and Scully finally managed to gain entrance into the club. Once there, they saw Nick and Tracy standing guard over Ross. Tracy had wrapped Nick's belt above the wound to act as a tourniquet. "I see you got him." Mulder observed. "Yes." Turning to the suspect Nick asked. "Who are you? What is your real name?" "I don't need a name." Ross replied. "Names are for mortal things. I am the Father." Mulder shook his head. "He won't tell you anything Detective Knight." Nick walked off in disgust. Tracy tried to continue the interrogation. "Did you murder Father William Pratt." The man managed to look offended. "You can't call it murder." "Oh." Tracy looked disbelieving. "Is it murder when a wolf eats a rabbit. All you are is prey and we are the predators. We are above such petty concerns as the concept of murder." "I do like his attitude Nicholas." LaCroix whispered from behind Nick. "It is quite refreshing. It is a pity however he is so flawed." They listened as Ross continued. "I am not afraid of what you can do to me, I am immortal. The only ones who can kill me are my own. I am the Father, He is the son and she is the unholy spirit. We are a trinity." "Too bad really" LaCroix continued. "If he were not so sloppy and so obviously insane. I might be tempted to grant him his wish." "LaCroix!" Nick voice was an intense whisper. "Oh come now Nicholas. You have to admit he does have the right idea about humanity." "No I do not!" "You didn't always think that way. There was a time you would have agreed with him." "Perhaps but that time has passed." Nick stated. "Mores the pity." LaCroix replied as he walked back to the bar. Mulder walked over to Nick. "Detective Knight, I've arranged for transport to the nearest hospital. I've also arranged for an armed guard for the prisoner while he's there." "Thank you." Nick replied. The conversation with LaCroix had shaken him. As Nick watched the restrained Ross being wheeled into emergency he saw a familiar figure waiting. "Nat? What are you doing here?" "I heard the call from dispatch and caught a ride with your backup to get a blood sample for DNA comparison. Besides someone had come to remind you to come home" She tapped her watch meaningfully. Nick looked at his watch. Natalie was right, he had less than an hour before dawn. "Damn, we took longer than I expected. Sorry Nat." "As soon as I get the sample, we leave right?" Natalie turned to get the samples from an orderly. "I can't I still have to fill out the paperwork." Nick said to her. "I can finish the paperwork Nick" Tracy interrupted, "You had better get going as soon as possible. I wouldn't want to see the case of sunburn you'll get otherwise." Natalie returned with the samples. "Got them, now lets go." As the two left, Natalie notice the bloody slit in Nick's shirt. "Ohmigod Nick!, what happened?" "I got a little sloppy out there. Ross had a knife. The wound's already healed though, so no problem." Natalie shook her head. "Nick, sometimes I just don't know what to do with you." Nick grinned "I have a few suggestions." "I'll bet" Natalie laughed as they got into Nick's caddie. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 6 Natalie woke up slowly. Still groggy she listened to the shrill sound of the phone. The answering machine finally picked up. "This is Nick Knight. I'm not in right now. Leave a message after the beep." "Nick, this is Agent Mulder. Our suspect just escaped from the hospital." Natalie felt the rush of air as Nick left the bed. "Knight here, Agent Mulder. What happened." Nick listened to the phone. Suddenly he slammed the phone down with enough force to shatter it. "DAMN!" Natalie left the bedroom to see Nick pacing back and forth. She listened to Nick swear for several minutes. For once she was glad she couldn't understand French. "Nick, what's going on?" Nick stopped pacing and turned to Natalie. "We had six officers guarding the suspect. Four are dead and two are in critical condition." "Oh, god." Natalie looked pale. "I have to get going." Nick said. Natalie nodded. "I'd better get going to. Looks like a busy night at the office." She gave Nick a half smile. Tracy looked at the carnage in the hospital room. There was blood everywhere. Several other officer's had already left the area a decidedly ugly shade of green. She was seriously considering joining them when she saw Nick enter. "Hi Nick." Nick took one look at her face and said "Tracy, why don't you get some air." "I'm fine Nick." Natalie walked in behind Nick. "I agree Tracy, you really look like you need a breather." "Geez, All right, already. I'll go check with Agent Mulder." Tracy walked off in a huff. Natalie looked at the walls. "Oh boy, This looks like it got ugly in here." "Is that a professional opinion?" Nick asked with a grin. Natalie shrugged. "That's as professional as you get with this kind of mess." Nick looked around. "It is pretty bad. Isn't it?" "Nick that has to be the understatement of the year." Natalie shook her head and looked around. Bending over one of the bodies she noted. "Nick, he's been ripped open by something sharp. If I didn't know better I'd swear it was done by a claw." Nick followed her gaze. "Or maybe very sharp nails." "C'mon Nick. No ones nails are that sharp. Are they?" Natalie looked into Nick's eyes and saw her answer. "Okay... Something is very wrong here." Nick nodded. All the evidence was contradictory, nothing about this case made sense. Agent Mulder walked into the room. "All of the bodies look like that. Two nurses and a doctor were also injured. Just not as severely. From the description they gave us it was the unholy spirit that did it." Nick looked around at the walls. "Are you trying to tell me one person did all this damage?" Mulder nodded. "It sounds unbelievable but you have to see the security tapes." The four law officers watched the tape in rapt attention. "I'm seeing it but I'm not sure I'm believing this" Tracy said through clenched teeth. On the screen a black haired woman was casually walking past the guarded room. Suddenly she swung her arm out catching the officer on the right in the throat. As the first officer went down she sank her fingers in the second officer's throat. Blood poured onto the ground from both officers. "Damn." Scully whispered. "I've never seen anyone move like that." Mulder nodded. "Some form of martial arts I guess." Both Nick and Tracy gave each other a sideways glance. She hadn't moved as fast as a vampire but she was obviously stronger than a normal human. "So now what do we do?" Tracy asked. "We circulate the pictures of the three, and pray. "Scully said. Nick looked up as Tracy answered her phone, it had been 2 days since the murder at the hospital. Despite their best efforts no trace of the three had been found. According to Mulder, the trio would commit two more murders then disappear again. They had to catch them before that happened. Tracy listened to the person on the other end of the phone. Occasionally she asked a question or gave an answer. Finally she hung up. "Nick, I think they hit again." Nick nodded and grabbed his coat. "I'll get Mulder and Scully, you meet me at my car." Mulder walked through the murder scene. The victim had been the owner of the Midnight Sun sporting goods chain. He had apparently been surprised in his sleep and killed in his bed. Mulder bent down and picked up a hypodermic needle. Mulder thought to himself. "One more to go." Was what he said outloud. Nick came back from the parlor. "We lifted several good prints off of everything but all they can help with is a conviction. There's nothing here that will help in catching them." Scully got off her cell phone. "No but we may have had a break after all. One of the officers cataloging the evidence from the suspect's apartment found a box of books. They didn't get to them till now because they looked like ordinary paperbacks. However several of the books had chapters underlined. Three guesses who the author was?" Mulder looked a little smug. "Theresa Ryan." "Give the man a prize." Scully exclaimed. Nick looked worried. "So you really think they're going after Terry?" Mulder nodded. "They must think she's a true believer. She does make a tempting target for them. The only well known author of vampire fiction in Toronto." Nick sighed. "So we put her on 24 hour surveillance and have an officer with her at all times." "That would be the best solution." Mulder agreed. "Tracy and I will alternate keeping her company." Nick said. "We will !?" Tracy yelped. Seeing Nick's look she quickly corrected herself. "I mean of course we will." "Good." Agent Mulder replied. "Meanwhile, Scully and I will keep a watch outside her home. If they keep to their schedule they'll have to make their move before the end of the week." As they left the victim's home, Tracy grabbed Nick's arm. "Nick is there something you're not telling me about Theresa?" "Such as?" Nick asked. "Like maybe she's one of you?" Tracy replied "Well is she?" Nick became evasive. "She's a friend." "C'mon Nick." Tracy insisted. "Trace..." Nick finally gave up. "Yes she is." "I knew it!" Tracy smiled triumphantly. "So where to now?" "Now we go have a talk with her. Then I have to hope she doesn't decide to tear my heart out for telling you." "Sorry" Tracy said in a meek voice. Tracy thought about it for a moment then she asked. "Nick if Theresa is a vampire then why does she need us for protection?" Nick looked at Tracy. "You'd rather try to explain why the three suspects were found torn limb from limb after entering the home of their intended victim?" Tracy grimaced. "Ouch. I guess this just isn't my night for thinking things through." As they drove off, Tracy stared out the window lost in thought. Nick decided to reassure her. "Tracy it shouldn't be that bad. Theresa won't be too angry, I hope." "That's not it Nick. I just realized. Aaron's not a vampire is he?" Nick looked away for a second. "No he isn't." "And he and Theresa are married right?" Nick knew where she was going. Natalie had told him about their talk. "Yes, Tracy. And no they never actually said how they managed." Tracy blushed. "It's just that Vachon and I have been going slowly but it's just so damned frustrating." Nick smiled softly. "Just keep taking it slowly Tracy. You don't want to rush things." "Gee thanks _big brother_" Tracy laughed as she dropped the subject. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 7 Nick rang the doorbell to Aaron's house. He listened to the muffled sounds of someone walking towards the door. Finally Aaron opened the door. "Hey Nick." Aaron looked at Tracy for a moment. "Detective Vetter. Right?" "Call me Tracy." She replied. Aaron yawned. "Sorry. Why don't you come in. Theresa's on another writing binge. I don't think she heard the bell." Nick looked at Aaron's face. He looked like he hadn't slept in a couple of days. "What happened?" Aaron was puzzled for a moment then he understood the question. "Nothing. Just midterms. I've been spending the weekend grading my students papers." Nick looked at Aaron's face and laughed "That bad?" Aaron sighed "Nick, did you ever get the feeling that your students were deaf and just going through the motions of taking notes?" Nick shrugged. "It happens." Tracy stared in shock at Nick. "You were a teacher?" "A professor of Archeology." Nick admitted. "back in the 50's" Aaron looked at the both of them. "So you told her?" "I decided it was time she knew." "I wish I could have seen that." "How did you react?" Tracy asked Aaron. "To learning Nick was a vampire?" Aaron shrugged. "I was surprised." "No to learning Theresa was a vampire." Tracy replied Aaron stared a Nick in shock. "I don't believe you told her that." "I was a little too enthusiastic about volunteering us to stand guard duty." "Guard duty?" Aaron asked. Nick filled Aaron in on what was going on. Halfway through the explanation Aaron began shaking his head. "Great." Aaron sighed. "I've got 3 psychotics who think they're vampires after my wife who is a vampire. Can it get any more complicated?" Nick nodded. As Tracy headed down the hallway to the living room. Nick held back then whispered to Aaron. "Tracy's boyfriend is a vampire. And I think she might have a few questions for Theresa." "You're just full of good news tonight. Aren't you?" Aaron glanced sideways at Nick. "_Her boyfriend?_ Truthfully?" "His name is Javier Vachon." Nick informed Aaron. "He hangs out at the Raven." "Long black hair, Spaniard, half the time he looks like he needs a shave?" "You've seen him?" "Yeah, Theresa almost broke his arm the night you dragged me out of the Raven." "How did you know that was him?" Nick asked "He was pointed out to me. Theresa and I sometimes go to the Raven to talk to a few of its patrons." Nick sensed Aaron was holding something back. But he had too many other things to take care of to follow up on it. As they reached the end of the hallway they heard the sounds of laughter. Nick walked into the living room to see Theresa laughing at something Tracy had said. "You actually tried to arrest him?" Theresa giggled. "Well I got as far as put your hands where I can see them." Tracy admitted. "And then?" "He turned around. One of his hands was still severed. I fainted." Aaron's laughter joined Theresa's. Then he said to Tracy. "You actually got her away from her computer without a crowbar? Amazing I wouldn't have...OOOFF!" The pillow Theresa threw hit Aaron square in the face. Theresa looked over at Nick. "I suppose I should be upset about this. But I like her." "Besides," Theresa continued only half joking. "If I staked you out for the sun, Natalie would never forgive me." Nick swallowed hard. "Sorry Terry, I didn't think she'd make a connection." "Nick you know that I always wonder. Especially since I learned about you." Tracy looked slightly embarrassed. "I still can't believe I didn't realize it sooner." Aaron walked into the kitchen while Tracy talked to the others. He returned with two glasses filled with a dark liquid and two steaming mugs. "Coffee Tracy?" Aaron handed her one of the mugs. "Thanks." Tracy gratefully took the cup from him. Nick eyed the glass that Aaron was now offering him. "Uh Aaron..." "Relax Nick." Theresa said. "Natalie told us you don't drink human blood anymore. It's not human." Nick accepted the glass. Swallowing a small mouthful he nodded his thanks. Aaron glanced at Tracy. Seeing she was still looking embarrassed he decided to talk to her. "Tracy. A lot of people wouldn't have noticed anything about Nick. People just don't like to believe that something they perceive as evil can be close to them. You try to explain away everything odd that happens." "But I knew about vampires." Tracy exclaimed. "Tracy. I married one. And I still didn't make the connection. As far as I was concerned Nick was Natalie's friend. That's it. I never even thought of the possibility. That's probably what you did. As far you were concerned Nick was you partner. Therefore..." "Therefore I concentrated on the everyday and just didn't see the weird stuff.." Tracy finished. "That's pretty much it." Aaron agreed. "I stopped trying to figure out who's a vampire a long time ago." "Thanks." Tracy felt better about herself. Suddenly she began giggling. "Something funny?" Nick asked. "Maybe we should start a support group." Tracy explained. "Oh?" Aaron smiled. "Sure you, Natalie and me. How many other people do you know that have vampires as Significant Others." Aaron started to laugh. After he finally got a hold of himself, he stared at Tracy as though trying to decide something. "What?" Tracy blushed. Aaron's stare was almost as intense as LaCroix's. "Just thinking" Aaron said enigmatically. Natalie finished getting the final results from the electron microscope. What she saw astounded her. Picking up the phone she dialed Metro station. "Is Detective Knight there? I see. Thanks." Hanging up she dialed Aaron's number. "Aaron is Nick there? Can I speak to him? Thanks." After a few seconds she heard Nick's voice. "Nat, is something wrong?" "Nick, I just finished the workup on the blood sample. You've got to see this. I'll come over and..." "No!, Sorry Nat, but it's too dangerous for you here. I'll talk to you when I get back." "Nick." Natalie began. Nick could hear the annoyance in her voice. "I really think you need to see these _now_." All Natalie could hear was silence then finally. "All right Nat. I'll come and get you." "No need. I'll see you there." She hung up and grabbed her keys before Nick could change his mind. Mulder watched a car pull up in front of the house. "Isn't that Dr. Lambert's car?" Scully picked up the binoculars and checked. "Yep. Guess she's visiting. Detective Knight did say she was a friend of Miss Ryan." "You'd think that he'd have warned her about this." "Somehow I don't think that Dr. Lambert is the type to stay away just because someone tells her to." "Sort of like you Scully?" Mulder quipped. "No more like you Mulder." Scully retorted, a smile on her face. Mulder laughed. Then he checked his watch. "Two more hours till our relief arrives." "Why do you care Mulder? You never sleep anyway." "I just want to be able to stretch my legs without hitting my head on the roof." Scully laughed. "You'd rather be inside driving Miss Ryan crazy with your theories." "I'll admit that I'd rather be inside. Then I could walk around. But Ms. Ryan is married. Actually she reminds me of you." "I'll bet." Scully didn't believe that. "I'm serious." Mulder reached into the back of the car. "Here." Scully took the book Mulder handed her. "You got her to sign it?" "I figured, since I was there." Mulder shrugged. "Look at the back." Scully looked at the back cover. Mulder was right. Theresa Ryan did look a little like her. Not exactly but she could have passed as a member of the family. Suddenly had an idea. "Mulder, I could..." "Not a chance Scully." Mulder knew what she was planning. "No way. You're not going to play bait." "Give me a good reason why not?" "Well..." Mulder paused. He honestly couldn't give her a legitimate reason. "It's perfect. We move Miss Ryan into a safehouse then I'll take her place." Mulder nodded. "As soon as our relief shows up we'll have a talk with Miss Ryan and her husband." Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 8 As Natalie entered Theresa's house she heard the sounds of laughter coming from the living room. Once there she saw the Aaron and Theresa sitting at a coffee table laughing at something. "So. What's so funny?" She asked. "Hi Natalie," Theresa waved her to a chair. "Nick and Tracy were just telling us about how Tracy reacted to learning Nick was a vampire." "Mphm" Natalie tried to stop the giggles that began with thought of what had happened. Tracy smiled. "I still say that doesn't beat what happened to Nick when he _rescued_ Aaron from Theresa." Nick looked embarrassed and tried to change the subject. "What did you want me to see?" "Huh?" Natalie was still laughing at memory of what Nick looked like when Aaron had wrapped his arms around Theresa. "Oh! right. Here." She laid out a series of papers on the table. "So what are we looking at?" Aaron asked. "These." Natalie said pointing to one set of papers. "Are the DNA structure of a normal human cell." "These," Natalie pointed to the second set. "Are from Nick." Aaron looked closely at the second set. "They're different." "Right." Natalie agreed. "There are extra strands of nucleotides that don't belong." "But this is the one that's really odd." She pointed to final set of papers. "This one is from the suspect." "They look like the one's from Nick's sample." Theresa exclaimed. Natalie shook her head. "No the pattern of the nucleotides is different.. But there are extra nucleotides present." "So what you're saying is that they're a mutation?" Tracy asked. "I don't know." Natalie admitted. "It is a possibility but I'd like run more tests. It would explain the strength and blood thirst though." "It would also explain how they survived the damage that Agent Mulder described." Nick agreed. "They seem to have only a fraction of our abilities, but only a fraction of our limitations as well." "So are they vampires or not?" Tracy was confused. "Again I don't know" Natalie replied. "The one that was caught had a normal heart rate, a normal body temperature but the wound you inflicted on him was healing at an accelerated rate. According to the Attending Physician the wound had almost healed by the time he escaped." "That would be less than 24 hours. Faster than a human." Nick said. "But slower than a vampire." Theresa looked at Aaron. "So what are they?" Tracy insisted. "That's the 24,000 dollar question." Natalie replied. The five of them went over each of the papers arguing possibilities. Aaron listened carefully to all of Tracy's comments. Finally he stood. "I think I'd better get the dishes." "He does dishes?" Tracy looked at Theresa. "How much do you want for him." She joked. "Sorry Tracy, but he's definitely not for sale." Theresa grinned. Once Tracy's attention was away from him. Aaron caught Natalie's eye. He nodded to the kitchen, indicating he wanted to talk to her there. Natalie nodded. "How about some help?" She got up. "I could use it Nat. Thanks." Aaron replied as the two of them walked into the kitchen. While the two washed the dishes, Natalie asked. "All right Aaron, what did you want to speak to me about?" Aaron looked concerned. "Natalie, what do you really think of Tracy?" Natalie was puzzled by Aaron's question but answered honestly. "She's a good officer. She does tend to go overboard on things. But that's because she hasn't had that much experience yet. She really tries. I like her... Now why ask that question." Aaron looked out the window for a second. "If those three killers really come after Terry I won't be able to keep out of it. Chances are I'll be hurt. I don't think she'll buy a miracle when my wounds heal up in minutes." "So what are you saying?" "I'm saying just maybe we ought to trust her with the truth." Natalie blinked. Those where almost the same words that she had used on Nick. "The whole truth?" "Why not. If you think we can trust her, I can talk to Daniel with his recommendation we might be able to get her into the Watchers and assigned to you. It'd make a lot less complicated." Natalie thought about it. What she said was "Tracy is going to be dissapointed." "Oh?" "When she finds out that we're Immortals. She's going to realize that it would never work between her and Vachon." "Natalie, when Theresa told you that bit about control and working up to it." "Yes?" "She didn't know you were an Immortal. She told me it was possible but I hope Tracy is the patient type." "Why?" "Because it took almost 3 years before Theresa stopped biting me." Natalie face took on a slightly rosy hue as she blushed. "I know Nick still forgets himself sometimes." "So we tell her?" "Yes, she deserves to know the truth." Natalie agreed. Tracy listened in shock as Aaron explained about Immortals and the Game. She managed to close her jaw and sit in dumbfounded silence as Aaron tried to give her an overview of what was going on. The others occasionally injected their own comments into the explanation. When they got to the fight at the park, Tracy turned to stare at Natalie. Natalie shrugged. "It's true Tracy." Tracy sat there trying to absorb everything that had been told to her. Shaking her head she asked. "So what happens now." Aaron stared at her. "I don't believe it." "Isn't that supposed to be her line?" Theresa teased. "You believe me?" Aaron asked. "Why shouldn't I?" Tracy replied. "I trust Nick and he's confirming your story." "Besides." She continued. "Now I understand why he changed his theory all of a sudden." It was Aaron's turn to close his jaw. "Well first thing tomorrow I'll contact Daniel and see about getting you into the Watchers." "I thought you said they don't like their people getting to close to Immortals." Aaron nodded. "But with Daniel's recommendation I think we might be able to swing it. Especially when he tells them you're a detective. Law Enforcement Officer's make some of the best Watchers." Suddenly Tracy realized something. "Oh boy, Vachon." "What about Vachon?" Nick asked. "We've been getting closer. Now what do I do?" Theresa reached over and gave Tracy's had a light squeeze. "You keep taking it slow. Eventually he'll learn to control the bite reflex. Once he does that then you can start getting more intimate." "Then why haven't more vampires heard of being able to control themselves like that?" Tracy asked. "The truth is most don't care enough about mortals to learn. Or else they're never even told it's possible." Theresa looked over at Nick. "So slow and steady wins the race?" Theresa nodded. Something occurred to Tracy. "Aaron is it possible that the Trinity killers are Immortals?" Aaron shook his head. "No, I don't think so. For one thing, Immortals heal a lot faster than the suspect did. A gunshot to the leg would have been totally healed within a few minutes not several hours." "And the other?" "As far as I know our DNA looks like any normal humans." "So we're back to square one about them?" Tracy looked disgusted. "Not quite square one." Nick disagreed. "Since we know they're similar to true vampires. I think we can safely say that decapitation will deal with them permanently." "Too bad that's not really an option." Aaron joked. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 9 As Mulder knocked on the door he whispered to Scully. "I really don't like the idea of you being bait." "Mulder it's the perfect plan." "Except it leaves you a target. If anything goes wrong..." "Nothing will go wrong Mulder. You'll be there to back me up." She smiled at him. "You've always been there." "Not always" Mulder voice was flat almost dead sounding. Scully knew what Mulder was referring to. "It wasn't your fault Mulder." Before Mulder could respond the door opened. Theresa Ryan smiled at the two agents. "Agent Mulder. Nice to see you, I think." She turned to look at Scully. "I'm sorry but I don't think I've met you." "Special Agent Dana Scully." Scully held her hand out. Theresa took Dana's hand in her cool grip. "Nice to meet you agent Scully. I guess you want to come in?" Scully nodded and Theresa waved them inside. "Come in, the more the merrier." As the agents explained their plan, they noted the looks that passed between the five people listening to them. "I guess you don't like the idea." Mulder noted. "It does pose few problems." Nick said. He thought to himself. "Such as?" Scully asked. "Well..." Aaron decided to tell a half truth. "My wife requires a special diet." Theresa nodded. "The primary ingredient is relatively hard to obtain quickly and requires refrigeration." "It's only for a day or so." Scully tried to reason with her. "Surely you could just bring what you need with you." "You can't guarantee it'll only be for a few days." Aaron disagreed. "Besides" Nick interrupted. "We don't have enough time to set up a secure safe house. Especially against a group like this Trinity." "They could stay at your place Nick." Tracy suggested. The look the four Immortals shot her almost made her cringe. "That's a perfect solution Detective Knight." Mulder nodded his approval of Tracy's idea. "Thanks Tracy." Aaron's voice was a little icy. As Theresa and Aaron packed to go, Theresa said. "I can't believe you trusted her." "Terry, she was trying to help. She thought we were concerned about the sunlight. If that were it, Nick's place was the obvious choice." "I know but how many bottles do we have in the fridge?" "Ten, counting the two bottles you got for Nick, twelve." "Can manage that many without them becoming suspicious?" "I don't see that we have much choice in the matter." Aaron thought about it. "I can pack them in a box and say that it contains equipment we need for mixing the ingredients. That should alleviate any suspicion." "What about the files on your computer?" "The ones with our backup Ids and Information? I keep it all on a bernoulli disk. I'll just take it with us." "What if they snoop around?" Theresa looked concerned. "Why do you keep a diary?" "That's not funny!" Theresa almost shouted. "Relax." When I heard Agent Mulder's theory I locked all of the things that might arouse suspicion in the firesafe." "Everything?" "Everything that we keep here. Including the tintype of the two of us at the opening of the 1876 Centennial celebration in Boston." "And if they search your computer?" Theresa insisted. The only thing on her computer were her stories and an internet linkup. "They might enjoy playing the Doom game. The rest of the files are more of the same. I'm not about leave anything on the computer that might get left behind." Theresa closed both suitcases. "That should do it." Aaron looked at the clock. "I'd better get the bottles. We only have about another 3 hours before sunrise." Aaron walked into the kitchen. He quickly began placing the bottles full of blood into a small box. When he was done he looked out the window to the street. Frowning he left the kitchen. "Agent Mulder?" he asked Mulder looked up from the map of the area he was looking at. "Something wrong." "You did say that you had two plainclothes officers outside in an unmarked car. Right?" "That's correct." Mulder turned his head look squarely at Aaron. "Why do you ask." "Because there are only three cars out on the street and there's no one in any of them." "WHAT!" Mulder grabbed the portable radio. "28 bravo, what is your position?" The only answer Mulder got was static. Nick grabbed the phone and tried to dial out. "The lines dead." "Why haven't they cut the power?" Scully asked. Aaron was tense, poised for a fight. "Underground power lines. They haven't put the new phone lines in yet." Scully walked over to the glass doors leading to the backyard. She peered into the darkness "I don't see anything out here Mulder." "We'd better get out of here." Mulder drew his gun then began to open the front door. As Mulder opened the front door two figures smashed through the glass doors next to Scully. One of the backhanded her. Sending her spinning into the wall. "Scully!" Mulder shouted as he turned to help his partner. The door behind Mulder was slammed open as the female member of the Trinity shoved her way into the house. The door caught Mulder in the back sending him into Aaron and Theresa knocking all three of them down. Mulder thought groggily. He was still slightly dazed by the force of blow. "Metro Police. Freeze!" Tracy stepped forward and pointed her gun at the Unholy Spirit as she called herself. Instead of stopping the Unholy Spirit simply smiled. She continued to advance on Tracy. Nick was busy trying to deal with the two others without letting the agents know what he was. The two male members of the Trinity, the Father and the Son were stronger than a normal human but Nick couldn't use his full strength without revealing himself. As the Unholy Spirit got closer Tracy fired. Two times she saw the bullets hit the Spirits body. But instead of falling the Spirit growled her eyes going red. Tracy thought. Before Tracy could fire again the Unholy Spirit lashed out. Her fingers pierced Tracy's chest like a needle through cloth. Tracy stared in shock at the sight of her own blood. Then she began to slump to the ground. "NOOOOO!!" Nick cry became a snarl of rage as he threw the two men into a wall with enough force to crack the wood. His body blurred as he caught the Unholy Spirit's hand before she could strike again. For a brief second the two struggled then Nick grabbed a wooden chair broke off a leg and rammed into the Unholy Spirit's heart. Mulder and Scully looked at Nick in shock. Then Mulder saw the Father pick himself up off the ground a jagged piece of wood in his hand. Without thinking Mulder aimed his pistol at the only sure kill point he could think off. His shot struck the Father between the eyes. The blood spray painting the wall behind him. Nick knelt next to his partner. "Tracy..." "Thanks." her voice was low but strong. "Thanks? Thanks for what?" "For trusting me. For being my partner." Her voice was weaker now. Nick could still hear a strong heartbeat. "Shock" Natalie said next to him. "She's going into shock. We need to get her to a hospital now!" Nick picked her up. "I've got her." Theresa appeared next to him. "Two of us can carry her faster." With Nick holding her shoulders and Theresa carrying her legs the two vampires carried Tracy off into the night. Mulder finished cuffing the last of the Trinity. "Scully, please tell me you saw that." "I don't know what to make of it Mudler, but I did see it." Suddenly there were several figures in the room with them. Mulder and Scully found themselves forcibly disarmed and herded into a corner of the room. Mulder looked over to where Natalie and Aaron were standing unmolested and asked "Who are they?" Aaron looked over to Mulder. "Enforcers. You might call them Vampire cops." Aaron turned to the one of the Enforcers. "You've been watching all this time?" The female enforcer, the same one that had confronted Nick about Tracy, nodded. "And you didn't do anything?" Aaron got angry. "Dammit Michele. Why not!?" "It wasn't our concern. At least not until Nick revealed himself to the FBI agents. Now we have to decide what to do with them." Mulder looked at grim faces all around him. "What's going on. Look let Scully and the others go. I'm the one that killed him." He nodded to the fallen member of the Trinity. Michele walked over to the fallen body. Giving it a look of scorn she snorted. "This, I could care less about who killed him. What concerns us is that you and the one called Scully know about us. Before you believed these pathetic things were the vampires now you have seen true vampires. We must decide what to do with you." "Michele." Aaron grabbed the Enforcers arm. "If you kill two FBI agents questions will be asked. There has to be a better way." "That all depends on them." Michele turned back to the two agents. Her voice became a loud whisper. "Agent Scully, I want you to listen to me..." Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 10 Nick sat in the waiting room head in hands. His eyes stared off into space seeing nothing. It had been over an hour since He and Theresa hand brought Tracy there. Theresa had gone back immediately and Nick had carried Tracy in alone. Nick thought. He was so caught up in his self recrimination that he didn't see Captain Reese walk into the room. "How is it going Nick?" Reese asked. Nick's head shot up. He stared at Reese not recognizing him. "Captain." He acknowledged. "No, nothing yet." "Damn" Reese sat down next to Nick. "Any idea how much longer?" Nick shook his head. "Captain about my leaving the scene. I know that I should have stayed until backup arrived but..." "Your partner was down. I know how that feels." Reese place his hand on Nick shoulder. "Don't worry about it. According to Natalie you had to get Tracy here fast. And Agent Mulder said that they had everything well in hand when you left." "Agent Mulder said that?" Nick was confused. "Did he say anything else?" "Yes. He did." Came a voice to the side of them. "He said that if you hadn't stopped her. The female suspect would have killed my daughter." "Commissioner Vetter." Reese stood up. "Sit down." Commissioner Vetter said. "I heard what happened and came as soon as I could." The Commissioner sat down across from the others. "Detective Knight, I'm glad to finally meet you. I just wish it was under different circumstances." Nick stared at the Commissioner. Vetter was a career cop. Tall, gray haired, he looked nothing like his daughter. Nick had been expecting this man to try to put him through a wall, not say how glad he was to finally meet him. "I don't understand Commissioner. It's my fault your daughter is here." Nick began "No Detective. It was my daughter's decision." The Commissioner interrupted. "If not for you I might have had to do this sooner." "I'm sorry, I still don't understand." "I mean I've followed my daughter's career quite closely." Commissioner Vetter explained. "I tried to get her into a safer field. But she's just so damned stubborn." "I noticed that" Nick agreed. "I'll bet." Commissioner Vetter said softly. "What I meant was. I've read the reports. If you hadn't been there during that serial kiler case when she went undercover without telling anyone, Tracy would be dead now. As it is this time, she'd already be dead. Not just in the hospital. I'm just praying that she'll be all right." The three men sat in silence, each with his own thoughts. Natalie walked into the quiet scene. "Nothing yet?" Nick shook his head. "No." "Doctor Lambert" Commissioner Vetter greeted her. "Commissioner." Natalie replied. Turning back to Nick she asked "Nick I need to speak to you. In private." "Right." Nick stood up and the two of them walked down the hall. "Nat. Is something wrong?" Nick asked. Natalie looked troubled "You could say that Nick. Right after you left the Enforcers showed up." "What?" Nick managed to keep his voice to a whisper. "Why, what happened?" "I'm not sure. I left just after they arrived. But I think they were trying to make Mulder and Scully forget what happened." "They must have succeeded. Captain Reese just told me that Mulder finished his preliminary report. I think he would have mentioned it if Mulder had said I was a vampire." Before they could continue the conversation, Nick noticed a doctor approaching Commissioner Vetter. "C'mon Nat. I want to hear how Tracy is doing." As the two of them approached. Nick got a sick feeling in his stomach. The doctor's face was too grim. "I'm sorry Commissioner, I wish I had better news. The left ventricle was damaged as well as the Aorta. There were at least two punctures in the pericardial sac. This led to pressure on the heart. We've repaired the damage. Now the rest is up to her." The doctor walked away. Nick could tell by his stance and body language that he didn't expect Tracy to make it. "Doctor? Is it possible for us to see her?" Nick asked. The doctor turned back around. "It certainly can't hurt. I'll let the nurse know. As soon as she's done, they'll let you in." Nick followed Natalie into the darkened room. The Commissioner and Reese had just left the room looking shaken. Reese had been doing his best to comfort the upset man. They'd been in there the better part of an hour. Natalie picked up the chart at the foot of the bed. Nick could see the news in her face. "She's not going to make it. Is she?" Natalie looked up to the monitors. "I don't know. It's too soon to really tell. But her vitals are slipping." "She's not going to make it." He thought about it. "Not unless I bring her across." Natalie pulled him aside. "What if she doesn't want to be brought across? It's her choice not yours." "It's my fault." Nick turned back to Tracy. "Nick she's a cop!. It was part of the package." Suddenly she stopped. "Nick roll up your sleeve." "What?" "Roll up your sleeve. I have an idea." Natalie rummaged in one of the drawers for a pair of syringes and a blood sampling kit. "Natalie what are you doing?" "Your blood Nick. If the unique properties in a vampire's blood can reverse the aging process for brief periods, it should be able accelerate the healing process as well." Nick thought about it. "That is possible some vampire's have used drops of their blood in a victim's wounds to close them. Especially when they didn't want to kill their victim right away." "So it will work." Natalie began drawing blood from Tracy. "Nat?" "When her wounds heal up without reason, they're going to want a blood sample. I need you to whammy the nurse into thinking this is the blood sample she took." Natalie held up the vial. Nick nodded. Then he thought of something. "Nat, the side effects..." "I know Nick. All we can do is hope that you can convince the doctor to release Tracy before the psychotic episodes begin. Once we get her to her apartment we can take turns keeping and eye on her." Nick watched as Natalie took several syringes of his blood and injected them into Tracy. Natalie leaned back against the wall. "Now all we can do is wait." Nick had been sitting at Tracy's bedside half dozing, when he felt someone touch his shoulder. Opening his eyes he saw Natalie standing there with a smile on her face. "It worked?" He asked. Natalie nodded. "Her vitals have improved and the wounds are closing. I just notified the nurse and she's going to get the doctor." "Thanks Nat." "Hey it was your blood." "But it was your idea. I wouldn't have thought of it." Nick admitted. Nick waited outside Tracy's room. He'd been trapped at the hospital all day. Every time a nurse had left Tracy's room Nick had been there to intercept the blood sample and replace it with one that Natalie had drawn. Tracy had almost fully recovered and with a little persuasion from him the doctor had already signed release papers. Nick smiled as Tracy was wheeled out of her room. "I still don't see why I can't can't walk out on my own." She complained. "Hospital Policy Tracy." Nick came up alongside her. "They can't have a patient break their leg on the way out, now could they?" "I still can't understand how you recovered so quickly. Nothing in your tests showed any abnormalities." Tracy's doctor was still questioning her good fortune. "Now doctor." Nick voice took on a cadence that Tracy had heard before. The nearly hypnotic quality that accompanied the _Whammy_ as Vachon had called it. "There are several documented cases of spontaneous healing. There's nothing to be concerned about. You don't have to worry about it." "I don't have to worry about it." the doctor repeated. "Of course I don't! Nothing to worry about. Spontaneous healing is a documented event. It's just that I haven't ever had a case before." the Doctor smiled at Tracy. Tracy started to giggle as Nick helped into his car. "So what really happened Nick?" "I think I'd better wait until were at your apartment Tracy." "You did what?" Tracy stared at Nick and Natalie. Their explanation had been unnerving to say the least. "I think you heard me Tracy." Nick said. Tracy paced the room. "You mentioned side effects. What kind of side effects." Natalie took over for Nick. "You might experience violent episodes. Possible paranoia." Tracy stopped pacing. "That's just great. Thanks Natalie." She struck a small vase off the table. It flew across the room and smashed itself against the wall. "Where the hell is Vachon." Natalie asked Nick. "She's starting show signs of violent tendencies already. We need to find out what happened with Agents Mulder and Scully." "He said he'd be here." Nick reassured Natalie. "He does care about her you know." "Thanks for the vote of confidence." Vachon's voice came from behind them. "Dammit Vachon." Nick swore at the same time Natalie gave off a small shriek. "Vachon don't do that." "Well now everyone's here." Tracy's voice got all their attention. The was a not of sarcasm in it that none of them had heard before. "You're all here." Tracy walked over to Vachon. "All of the people who were laughing at poor Tracy." She turned to Nick. "You're not going to laugh at me anymore." Vachon wrapped his arms around Tracy. Pulling her into hug that also immobilized her arms. "Tracy none of us were laughing at you." "You weren't?" Her sounded like a small childs. "No." Gently he tugged until they were on the couch. "You don't have to do this you know." her voice sounded like she was about to cry. "Nick told me" "Told you what?" Vachon asked. "Told me he threatened you. That's the only reason you stayed." "That's not the reason." Vachon kissed her temple. "I stayed because I wanted to. I care about you." He felt her relax and released his grip until she was curled up on the couch, her head in his lap. "S'nice." She murmured. "What's nice." Vachon smiled at her. "That you care." Her voice dropped off into sleep. "Well I'll be." Natalie said in amazement. "I guess everyone reacts differently." "You'll keep an eye on her?" Nick asked Vachon. "Sure." "Good. We still need to find out what happened at Theresa and Aaron's house after I left." He and Natalie headed for the door. "Don't worry about Tracy." Vachon said to them. "I'll keep her safe." "I'll always be here for you." Vachon whispered to her sleeping form. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 11 As Nick drove along the busy freeway he dialed the number of Mulder's hotel room. "Still no answer." "Did you try the station?" Natalie asked. "Yes. They haven't seen either of the Agents since they filed their report." "So where are they?" "I think I know." Nick replied. Natalie watched as Theresa and Aaron's house came into view. "You think they're still here?" "I don't think they were allowed to leave." Nick stated. "Nick you don't think the Enforcers did anything?" "I'm not sure Nat. I hope not." As Aaron opened the door, Nick noted that he looked even more tired. "Nick, Nat. I figured you'd come. You're looking for Agents Scully and Mulder right?" "Where are they?" Nick asked. "In the spare bedroom. Being guarded by an Enforcer. "Why?" "You want the long version or the short one?" "I think you'd better give me the short version." Nick decided. Aaron sat down in one of the chairs. "They're both resistors. The only reason Mulder went along with the story we gave the police was the Enforcers threatened to kill the police if they talked." "So what now?" Nick asked. "I don't know yet. Michele said.." "Michele?" "One of the Enforcer's leaders." Aaron explained. "She said something about being able to work her way around Mulder but not Scully. She didn't go into detail. Maybe you can ask her when she gets here." Nick and Natalie settled in the couch. "When she gets here?" Natalie asked. "Yeah, she wanted to talk to Aristotle. Something about the division that Mulder works in." "The X-Files? What about it?" Nick wondered. "Beats me. I try to keep away from law enforcement as a rule." "How are they?" "Last time I checked, exhaustion finally overwhelmed them and they were asleep. That's where I'm going to be." Aaron got up and headed for the main bedroom. Yawning, he turned back to Nick. "Sorry but if I don't get some sleep I'm going to collapse." "Don't worry Aaron. Nick and I understand." Mulder and Scully were both still groggy as the Enforcers herded them out of the bedroom. Neither of them had managed to get much sleep. The slim black woman staring at them looked more like a fashion model that a monster. Slowly she walked until she was standing in front of both of them. "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully. I have a problem. Normally when someone discovers our community. We have three choices. One, I can make them forget. Two. I can kill them. Or three I can trust them not to reveal our existence." "I guess you already know I'd prefer choice three." Mulder interjected. The woman smiled, her eyes had turned gold and her fangs had come down now. Mulder swallowed as she leaned closer. "Yes. I suppose that would be your choice. Mine, of course, would be number 1. Unfortunately you're both resistors. That means I can't use my abilities to make you forget." She turned until she was less that a foot from Scully. "That's only true of you Agent Scully. Apparently your partner Agent Mulder has been subjected to repeated assaults on his mind. It has left his will a trifle fractured. I could get him to forget, but not you. So the real question is what should I do with you?" Mulder spoke up. "Let her go. I promise you we won't say anything to our superiors." "Mulder!" Scully's voice was shocked. "I don't believe that you said that. They're killers. You heard them." "I realize that Scully. But according to Miss Ryan the vampire community has existed for thousands of years. And they frown on killing humans. It draws attention to them." "That doesn't excuse what they've done in the past." "What have they done? Except what they had to survive? They aren't the Trinity killing out of some insane belief. They need the blood to survive." "I really don't believe this Mulder. Why are you backing them?" "Scully, think about it. They could have killed us last night. Then they would have blamed the Trinity. Instead they allowed us to live." "That's because they thought they could make us forget." "They tried that last night before the backup arrived. It didn't work. So why didn't they kill us. Or Natalie and Aaron, neither of them is a vampire." "So what are you saying?" "That they're not all monsters. That we might be able to trust them." Michele listened with amusement to the dialogue between the two agents. They had actually managed to blot out everything but each other while they argued the merits of trusting those that held their lives in hand. "Agent Scully. Would it help if I told you that I would trust your promise not to speak of us." "Why?" Scully wanted to know. "Because according to a Frohicke? I think his name is. The two of you are devoted to each other. Either of you would die to protect the other. In those circumstances I think that we can count on your silence." "You know Frohicke?" Mulder voice was full of shock. "No not personally, but one of ours. Aristotle. And before you ask no he is not _the_ Aristotle. he often uses the internet to find positions for vampires who wish to relocate. During his sojourns on the Net he made the acquaintance of your friends the lone gunmen. They amuse him with their theories. In exchange he provides them with information. Aristotle is quite good with a computer." She stopped talking and looked both agents over very carefully. "According to the information Aristotle provided you aren't very well liked, Agent Mulder. The only person you trust, care about is agent Scully. Given that, I have no doubt you will keep quiet to protect her. Will she do the same for you?" "Yes." Scully's quiet voice replied. "Good." Michele smiled again. "Just remember, if any word of us leaks out. Both your lives are hostage." With that she left the room. "So what now?" Scully asked. "I guess we keep this a secret." Mulder replied. "All that would happen if we talk is we both die and they have to go into hiding for a decade or two." "I still don't like this." "I know but look at it this way. This time we have a secret that they don't know about." "Welcome to the club." Aaron said from the sidelines. "Club?" Scully looked over to where the 4 were sitting. Natalie grinned. "The warm blooded people who know about vampires club of course. Very exclusive." "What are the dues like?" Mulder said flippantly. "Not bad." Aaron returned. "The only requirement is you have to be able bite your tongue when someone starts talking about vampires." "Well that was nerve racking." Natalie said as she stood up. "But I want a look a the DNA profile from the Unholy Spirit. It might give me some clues as to how she took two slugs from a 9mm and still managed to injure Tracy." "How is Detective Vetter?" Mulder asked. "Recovering." Natalie replied. "Nick I think we'd better get going." "Mind if Scully and I tag along." Mulder inquired. "I don't know if I'll be any help. But Scully would be." "Why not." Nick sighed. "You're already in up to your necks as it is." Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 12 Mulder looked at his partner in disbelief. For the last two days she and Dr. Lambert had been going over blood samples in the Morgue lab. The findings had been disturbing to say the least. "Scully, that theory sounds more like something I would have come up with." Scully looked up from the reports that she and Natalie had been collating. "I know it sounds bizarre, Mulder but that's the only conclusion I can draw from the data." "What? That our suspect is some kind of recombinant construct? That she was designed to be a vampire?" Natalie picked up one of the scans from the electron microscope. "Agent Mulder, this is the DNA sample from the female suspect. The nucleotide patterns are closer to those from Nick's sample but there are still some significant differences." Mulder looked over the papers. "All that shows is she's a mutation of the original vampire strain." "Right, if those had been the only extraneous strands then I'd agree with you." Scully pointed to a section of the chart. "I've seen this pattern before." "Where?" "From the samples from the Samantha clone, also from your blood after the Bounty hunter infected you with the retrovirus." "Whoa, hold it," Natalie interrupted "Excuse me? Clone? Bounty Hunter? Could someone bring me up to speed here?" Natalie listened to Mulder's story. "OK, your sister disappeared when you were twelve. Then someone who claimed to be your sister showed up some 20 years later, only she wasn't you sister but a clone. At the same time a shape shifting alien showed up and starting killing identical looking victims and they're all connected." Natalie paused. Then laughed. "And I thought my life had gotten complicated." Mulder smiled. "So what does this mean? Were they trying to create a superweapon and failed or did they capture a vampire?" "Either way, I think I'd better let Nick know what's going on." Natalie picked up the phone. "Nick, meet us at Theresa's place, I have something you need to see." When Nick arrived at Theresa's house he found Theresa, Aaron and Michelle talking the living room. "I just hope I haven't made a mistake letting those two live." Michelle was saying. "Relax, Mich, you heard what Aristotle said. They'll do anything for each other. So long as we don't give them a reason to act against the community, they'll keep quiet. They have enough enemies as it is." "That's easy for you to say, Aaron. I don't see you telling Agent Mulder your secret." Aaron shrugged. "It's not like he's looking for my kind." Aaron picked up his glass. Nick sat down. "Does anyone know what Natalie wanted us to see?" Aaron shook his head. "She called and asked me to contact Michelle. She said that she had something that the Enforcers needed to know." Natalie waited as Mulder rang the bell to Aaron's house. After a few seconds, Theresa opened the door. "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully welcome back." As Natalie walked in Theresa grinned at her. "Hi Nat. Now can you tell me what's going on?" "I think you need to be sitting down for this one Terry." Nick and the others listened as Scully explained her findings. When she was done Michelle asked. "Agent Mulder, is it possible for you to get me a picture of this Cancerman?" "It's possible why?" "This is no longer just a threat to the community here. If this Cancerman and his people have captured a vampire then all of us are in danger. I think I'm going to have to contact my counterparts in the States." "Your counterparts?" Scully asked. "The Enforcers are not exactly the vampiric equivalent of the FBI but we do keep each other informed. I think that they might be interested in this." Mulder looked worried. "They aren't going to do anything to him are they?" "I didn't think you cared Mulder." Scully teased. "I don't, I'm just concerned that they might try to blame us for whatever happens." "Don't worry Agent Mulder" Michelle reassured him. "If it becomes necessary to take action, we will be subtle." "Mulder, are we sure that the Cancerman is even involved in this?" Scully asked. "No Scully, but all the circumstantial evidence points to him and his shadow organization." Aaron was distracted from the conversation by the ringing of the phone. Picking it up he answered. "Hello." He listened to the caller for a minute. "Agent Mulder, its for you." "Mulder here." Mulder seemed to grow more agitated as he listened to whoever was on the other end. "I see thank you." Hanging up the phone he began pacing. "DAMN!" he turned towards Scully. "Well Scully, we now have our confirmation." "What are you talking about Agent Mulder?" Nick asked. "Certain individuals within the U.S. Government have requested that all evidence, bodies and suspects relating to the Trinity case be turned over to them. Apparently pressure is being brought to bear on a very high level. The Canadian government has agreed. Case Closed. We're supposed to be back in Washington at the end of the week." "They're covering their tracks again." Scully looked dejected. "Too bad for them it isn't just you and Mulder they have to worry about." Michelle got up. "I expect you to send me those pictures as soon as you get to Washington, Agent Mulder." Michelle walked to the back door. Nodding towards Theresa and Aaron she launched herself into the night. "Now what Mulder?" Scully looked at her partner. "We pack and head home." Mulder replied. "By now they're already confiscating all our evidence." Mulder suddenly smiled. "Though they did say that we had to the end of the week." "And?" Scully asked already knowing the answer. "There was one other reason I wanted to come here. Detective Knight, I was wondering, could you do me a favor?" Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 13 "There was one other reason I wanted to come here. Detective Knight, I was wondering, could you do me a favor?" Mulder looked over at Nick. Aaron picked up his drink. Aaron began to smile. Mulder looked over at Aaron. "You think my theory is funny?" "Actually Agent Mulder, I was just thinking that you're very good at figuring things out." Mulder stared at Aaron, finally he decided Aaron meant every word. "This is my job Mr. Grey." "If you want all the evidence we do have, Agent Mulder, we're going to have to go down to Metro." "All right." Agent Mulder replied. "We'll meet you there." As Scully and Mulder got into their car, Scully asked. "What do you think?" Mulder looked at the house. "I think that they're lying through their teeth about this." "They're good at it, but Aaron's answers were too pat." Scully agreed. Mulder nodded. "Only one thing to do." "We are not going to stake out this house for the next five days." Scully gave Mulder an fed up look. Mulder just grinned at her. "Mulder!" Scully's voice was clearly audible as the car drove away. As she watched the cars drive away Theresa did some thinking. "Aaron, I don't think Agent Mulder will give up." Aaron sighed. "I know love, but barring another Immortal showing up, I don't think they can gather enough evidence to satisfy any of their superiors." "What about enough evidence to satisfy their suspicions?" "That might be a problem." Aaron admitted. "But it's too damn early in the morning for me to be worried about that." Hitting the button that closed the drapes, he headed for the bedroom. Smiling, Theresa shook her head and followed him. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 14 Scully watched as Aaron and Theresa left the house and walked down the street. She and Mulder followed them on foot as they made their way to the local mall. Scully smiled as Aaron bought a single red rose from a local merchant and handed it to his wife. "A definite romantic." Scully whispered to Mulder. "If he's such a romantic, why doesn't he take her out to dinner?" Scully shot a look over at her partner. Mulder just grinned. Sighing she turned back to watching Aaron and Theresa walking through the mall. "Scully, why aren't you wearing your trenchcoat?" "The same reason you're not, Mulder, it's too warm a night." "Then why is Aaron wearing his?" "Maybe because he's more comfortable in a warmer climate and this is cool to him?" "I don't think so, Scully. He isn't uncomfortable in the coat but it does look like he'd be more comfortable with it off." "So why isn't he removing it?" "Maybe because he's hiding something under it?" "Like what?" Scully looked over at Mulder suddenly realizing what Mulder was talking about. "C'mon Mulder, you don't think he's actually carrying a sword under there?" "I don't know." Mulder replied. He frowned then continued. "You remember when the Trinity attacked the house?" "How could I forget?" "Well, Aaron was wearing the coat then too. When the Unholy Spirit knocked me into him, I felt some kind of harness. Almost like a gun rig or something similar. In the excitement afterwards, it kinda slipped my mind." "So you really do believe Aaron is involved in this." "I'm not sure yet. But I have a hunch he's involved." Aaron slid his arm around Theresa's waist. Leaning in, he nuzzled her neck. "Are they still following us." he whispered into her hair. "Yes, and stop that." Theresa gently shoved his head away. Giggling, she turned her head just enough to make out both agents in the corner of her eye. "They're keeping a discrete distance away from us." She wrapped her arm around Aaron's waist and leaned her head against his chest. "I think I might have underestimated Agent Mulder's tenacity." "Ready to say uncle yet?" Aaron laughed. "No, not yet. But if he keeps following us, I just might decide that telling him is the lesser of two evils." Mulder sat in his motel room typing on Scully's computer. Two nights of following Aaron and Theresa around had gotten them nothing but sore feet. Now he was relying on his contacts to help him fill in the blanks. Scully walked in and saw Mulder loading a image viewing program onto her computer. "Mulder, if those pictures are what I think they are, you're a dead man." "Relax, Scully, I just asked the Lone Gunmen to do some digging for me. The information they came up with was interesting." "And that is?" "This is a picture of Nash from just before the killings." Mulder pulled up a scanned picture from a news photograph. Scully took a close look at the picture. In it a smiling Nash was standing next to a young man. As she examined the picture, she read the caption outloud. "A jeweled dagger once belonging to Queen Anne was auctioned off for a record price by Russell Nash. Nash is shown standing next to the proud new owner of the dagger, Mr. Andrew Carter." Scully took a closer look at the picture. "Mulder!, that's Aaron!" "That's what I thought too, Scully. But this picture is 12 years old. Aaron would have been 17 or so. The guy in the picture's at least the same age as Aaron is now." "Then that's Aaron's father?" "Sounds good, except that if that is Aaron's father then he must have had Aaron when he was about 11. Not outside the realm of possibility but not very likely either." "Any thing else?" "According to Byers, they pulled this one out of the National Archives. They used some kind of new visual recognition software to get a match." Scully peered the new photograph. "Mulder this looks like its at least 80 years old." Mulder read Byer's notes. "About there." "But that's...." "I know, Aaron and Theresa at an Armistice celebration in 1918." Mulder looked into Scully's eyes. "What do you say we pay Mr. Grey a visit?" Aaron didn't look surprised to see them, Mulder noted. "Mr. Grey, I was wondering if we could have a few moments of your time?" Aaron shrugged. "Sure, why not?" "Could we borrow you computer? I have something I want you to see." "Help yourself." Scully looked around. "Mr. Grey, where's your wife?" Aaron pointed the bedroom. "Sleeping. I just got up to get some water when I saw your car pull up. Otherwise I'd be asleep to." Mulder finished pulling up the two pictures. "I was just wondering if you could explain these." Aaron looked at the two pictures. "I guess you won't buy that they're ancestors of mine, would you?" Mulder gave Aaron a half smile. "No I don't think so." "OK, have a seat. This is going to be a little hard to believe." When Aaron finished explaining about Immortals and the Game. Mulder shook his head. "If I hadn't seen what I've seen in the past two weeks, I would have said you were insane." Scully nodded. "Given all the evidence, I have to believe you." "So what now?" Aaron asked Mulder. Mulder and Scully began whispering to each other. Aaron caught brief snippets of their conversation. "What can we do?...He'd just disappear...self defense, you heard him...And you believe that...No proof...Pictures aren't conclusive...can't just let him go...How do we stop him...." Finally Mulder turned back to Aaron. "Does Detective Knight know about this?" Aaron nodded. "Yeah, he knows." "Then why didn't he bring you... Never mind" Scully answered her own question. "He couldn't with out revealing his own secret." "That's about right." Aaron agreed. "And Russell Nash is an Immortal as well?" Mulder asked. "And the Kurgan, and Fasil and Vasilek. Yeah they were all Immortals." "I'm surprised you haven't tried threatening us yet." Scully stated. "Well I was hoping we could avoid threats." "You mean the like the fact that your wife would probably rip both our hearts out if we caused you grief." Aaron grinned. "There is that." He nodded. Mulder looked back a Scully. She answered his silent question with a nod. "All right Mr. Grey, we'll keep your secret. On one condtion." "And that is?" "You put me in touch with these Watchers, they might come in useful someday." "Deal." "I really want to talk with you again before we head home." Mulder said as they got up. "Stop by any night." Aaron replied. "I'll do that." Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 15 As the Caddie pulled away from Aaron and Theresa's, Natalie asked. "Do you think that Agent Mulder's serious about the murder's?" "I think that Aaron had better be very careful while Mulder's here." Natalie laughed. "Did you see the look on Aaron's face when Agent Mulder asked about them?" Nick's laughter joined hers. After they managed to get control of themselves, Nick asked. "Nat, you mind if we check on Tracy?" "I was just going to ask you the same thing." As Vachon opened the door, Natalie could make out long scratches across his right cheek. "What happened?" Nick asked pointing towards his face. "Tracy woke up about 30 minutes ago. I just got her to go back to sleep." Then he asked plaintively "Dr. Lambert, when will the violent episodes stop?" "What's the matter? Can't you handle a lady cop?" "Not without hurting her I couldn't." Vachon admitted. "She woke up , I said, _Hi Tracy_, and WHAM she starts swinging." He shook his head. "I go these," Vachon pointed to the scratches. "keeping her away from her gun." "What was she doing going for her gun?" Nick asked. "I don't know and I didn't want to find out." Natalie walked over to the couch. "She's sleeping like a baby." "A baby." Vachon looked at her. "A baby with a right hook that makes Joe Sullivan look like a nun." "Ouch." Natalie grimaced. "She hit you that hard?" "Actually, I was wondering if you could check her wrist. I think she sprained it when she hit me." Natalie bent over Tracy. "No, no signs of swelling. I think she's OK." "You still didn't answer my question." "Huh?.. Oh, sorry, it shouldn't last more than a few more hours." "Vachon?" Nick looked out the window. "Are you going to be all right here?" "No problem. Tracy put in heavy drapes. Should keep the sun out." Nick smiled. "Nat, we need to get going." "Be right there Nick." She gently patted Tracy's cheek. "Knight, Have you seen those FBI agents?" Captain Reese almost shouted the words as he marched through the station. "Not recently, Captain." Nick replied. "It's been two days since the case was closed and I haven't seen hide or hair of them. Somebody find them please." Calming down a little. Reese looked over at Nick. "How's Tracy doing?" "Better, I think she wants to come back to work already." "Tell her to take it easy. The doctor said that even if she though she was 100%, she should take at least a week off." "I already did that, Captain." "Good" Reese walked over the water cooler. Picking up a cup he pushed the button on the spigot. After a few seconds he crushed the cup and shouted. "When the hell are they going to fix this thing!?" Nick walked into the Coroner's office. "Nat?" "Over here Nick." Natalie called from next room. When he walked in he found her bent over a desk loaded with papers. "Something wrong?" "No, just finishing paperwork." "Nat, have you seen Mulder and Scully?" "As a matter of fact..." Natalie started to grin. "Where are they?" Nick asked with a sinking feeling. "Theresa said that Mulder and Scully have been staked out in front of their house, every evening for the last two days." "You're kidding, right?" "Nope, according to Theresa they've been making Mulder and Scully follow them through every mall in the area." Nick chuckled. "I guess Aaron's worried." Natalie shook her head. "Theresa said that Aaron's not going to worry until they walk in and accuse him of being the killer." "Doesn't anything faze him?" Nick said slightly annoyed at Aaron's apparent cavalier attitude. Natalie shrugged. "Not for long, I guess." "What do I tell the Captain?" "Well you could tell him that Mulder and Scully are seeing the sights. Or you could tell him the truth." Natalie returned Nick's stare innocently. Then she broke into laughter. Later that night, Nick stopped off at Tracy's apartment. "Hi, Nick." Tracy smiled as she opened the door. "What brings you here?" "Just checking up, Tracy. How are you feeling?" "A lot better now, Thanks." She sat down on her couch. "So where's Vachon?" Nick asked. "He had to go back to the Church. I think he ran out of blood or something. He said he'd be right back. So what's been going on?" "Mulder and Scully think Aaron had something to do with the decapitation killings." Tracy giggled. "I wish I could see Aaron's face." Vachon entered through the window. "What about Aaron's face?" "Tracy was just wishing she could have seen the look on Aaron's face when the Enforcers showed up." Nick covered. Vachon put the two bottles he was carrying onto the table. Opening one he took a drink. "I don't see why. From what I've seen at the Raven, the community seems to tolerate him." Vachon shrugged. "Of course being married to one of the oldest of us must help." "So when can I go back on duty?" Tracy asked. "Not till the end of the week, Tracy and even then you need to go in for a physical first." "Great, so what do I do for the next 3 days?" "I've got a few suggestions." Vachon offered. "Something that won't put me back in the hospital?" "Well..." Vachon's look was innocence itself. "Right." Turning back to Nick she asked. "Hey partner, you mind using some excessive force here?" Nick looked at the two of them on the couch and headed for the door. "You're on your own Tracy." "Some help you are." Tracy muttered as Nick left the apartment. "Tracy if I promise not to bite, will you let me hold you?" Vachon asked. "If you put it that way..." Tracy put her head on Vachon's shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 16 Natalie hung up the phone in the loft. "That was Aaron, Agents Scully and Mulder just left his place." "Still looking for proof?" Nick asked. "Actually they have proof." Natalie replied "What!?" "It seems that Mulder's friends dug up a few old photographs of Aaron. Mulder showed them to Aaron and he decided to tell them the truth about himself." "And you?" Nick was worried. The last thing he wanted was for Natalie to be placed in anymore danger. "No." Natalie shrugged. "He just told them about Immortals in general. They decided to keep the secret." "Just like that?" "Well, apparently they discussed it first then came to the conclusion that Theresa wouldn't appreciate anyone giving her husband grief. Then they agreed to keep his secret." Nick started laughing. "That sounds about right." Aaron smiled as he opened the door to let Mulder and Scully into the house. "I figured you'd show up today." "Why?" Mulder asked. "Because you said you wanted to talk to me again and you also said you had to the end of the week. That's tomorrow." Mulder nodded. "Have you heard from the Watchers yet?" "Sort of." "Sort of?" Scully asked. "I can't actually go to the Watchers and tell them about you. I'm not even supposed to know about them. My Watcher has contacted his superiors and they'll probably try to contact you when you get back to Washington." "Good enough." Mulder replied. "Is that all you came here for?" Aaron asked. "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully." Theresa's voice startled them as she stepped into the room. She was dressed in a pair of levi's and a blue silk shirt. From the way she was tucking the shirt in she had just gotten out of bed. "Aren't you supposed to sleep in the daytime?" Mulder asked. Theresa laughed. "No, Agent Mulder, we can move about in the day. Just not in direct sunlight. I sleep when I'm tired but who can sleep with the three of you making all that noise?" "One more Hollywood cliche bites the dust." Scully remarked. "Along with the one about vampires sleeping in coffins I hope." Theresa said with a grin. "You don't?" Mulder pretended shock, which prompted Scully to elbow him in the ribs. Theresa laughed. "I'm going to get something to drink. Anyone else want something?" All three nodded. Theresa got up and headed for the kitchen. She returned with four glasses. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about the Game." Mulder continued. "Do you know how much longer it's going to go on?" "I wish I knew." Aaron admitted. "It could be tomorrow or a hundred years from now." "So until then, there are going to be deaths by beheading all across the globe?" "Well they won't all be the result of an Immortal duel, Agent Mulder." "How do we tell the difference?" Scully asked. Aaron tapped one of the reports they had left on their last visit. "If there's a sudden freak electrical discharge in the area, it's one of us." Aaron reached for one of the glasses. Scully followed his lead but before she could raise it to her lips, Theresa stopped her. "Agent Scully, that glass is mine." Scully looked at the glass in her hand. The dark red liquid could have passed for a deep rich wine but now she could smell the metallic odor of blood. Swallowing hard she put the glass down. "Thanks." She managed to get out. Tracy walked into the station to voices of well wishers glad to see her back. "Welcome back Tracy." One officer said. "Glad you're OK." A female uniform smiled at her. Finally she reached her desk. "Hey, Nick, anything happen while I was out?" "Nothing new." Nick leaned in close and whispered. "How did your meeting with Daniel go?" She smiled. "Well, I just wish Aaron had told me about the tattoo first." "Tattoo?" She pulled up her sleeve far enough for Nick to see the bandage. "It's going to play hell with my going to the beach." Then her smile got wider. "You're looking at Natalie's new watcher." "Great." Nick looked up to see Mulder and Scully exiting from Captain Reese's office. "C'mon Tracy." Nick headed to intercept the two agents. "Mulder, Scully." Nick greeted them. "Nick, Tracy." Scully nodded. "Mulder was just telling Captain Reese that FBI is interested in the recent Headhunter killings. He's agreed to loan you to us for tonight to run down a few leads." "I thought you were leaving for Washington tomorrow?" Tracy asked. "We are." Mulder answered. "But since we have one extra day, I thought you'd like to give us a hand." "Why not?" Tracy followed them out the door. Nick rolled his eyes as he headed out. Trinity A Forever Knight/Highlander/X-files Crossover By Kevin Matsumoto Chapter 17 Aaron paused before the door into the training hall. Inside he could feel the presence of another Immortal. He thought. He loosened the sword from its sheath and opened the door. "Hey, Aaron." Natalie called from the couch. She and Nick were grinning at his cautious entrance. "Hey yourself" Aaron answered, grinning in relief. He looked around. "Where's Terry, she said she'd meet me here." "She called." Nick replied. "Said she was going to be a little late. Something about a sale." Aaron walked over to the fridge. "You know I never understood why she bothers with sales. With money in our accounts, if she wants something she can just buy it." "Must be nice to have that kind of money." Natalie noted. "Comes with the territory, Natalie. Invest some money here and there and then leave it for a hundred years." "That's scary." Natalie said. "What?" Nick asked. "The way you two just talk about a hundred years as though it was nothing." Natalie answered. "That and the thought that someday I'll be talking like that." Nick saw the sad, wistful look on Natalie's face. "Nat, is something wrong?" "I was just thinking how sad it is to watch friends and family grow old and die." "You have to learn to let go, not let the loss reach you." Aaron said. "How do you do that?" Aaron looked thoughtful then shrugged. "When I figure it out I'll let you know." Natalie laughed, then she looked at Aaron's face. "You're not joking, are you?" "Not really, I never learned how to cut myself off like that. In a way I'm glad I didn't." "Glad?" Nick asked. "When you truly stop caring and feeling, that's when you finally stop being human." Nick thought about that. "Nick, I almost forgot. Did the FBI leave on schedule?" Nick started out of his reverie. "Yeah, they left on the Redeye flight." "Well that's one less thing we have to worry about." Theresa's voice came from the doorway. Aaron got up and gave his wife a kiss. "Find any good bargains, Love?" "Not really," She sighed. "The usual, nothing worth buying." Natalie smiled. "Hi Terry." "Natalie, Nick." Theresa smiled in greeting. "How's your partner?" "She just returned to duty." Nick answered. "And she's Natalie's new Watcher." "That's terrific." Theresa said. "At least you don't have to worry for a while." Natalie nodded then freed her sword from its scabbard. Then she wondered. "Aaron, where's Kyle? I haven't seen him in a couple of weeks." "California, Something about an auction he wanted to attend. He should be back in a month or so." "So until then it's just you and me?" "Uh huh. Ready." "Whenever you are." Natalie walked over to the center of the hall and moved into the guard position. After about an hour the two of them took a break. As they sat down, Nick asked. "Aaron, who do you practice with normally?" "Me." Theresa answered. Natalie looked at Theresa. "You? but I thought..." "Natalie, I was born in a time and society that believed that women were as good as men at fighting. We almost stopped the Roman Legions." Natalie shook her head. "I don't think I'm ever going to get used to that." "Used to what?" Nick wrapped his arms around her. "To hearing about ancient history as though it happened yesterday." Nick hugged her. "You'll get used to it." "I hope so." Natalie smiled sadly. The man that Mulder and Scully referred to as the "Cancerman" walked into his office. It had been a difficult week, getting the test subject back from the Canadian govt. had been torturous to say the least. "Excuse me, but I wish to have a word with you." A voice spoke from behind him. Cancerman spun about, before him was a tall dark haired man dressed in a gray business suit. "Who the hell are you?" He asked as he reached for his alarm. "Don't bother." The intruder said. "There's no one in the building awake to hear the alarm." Slowly the figure closed the distance between them. The Cancerman watched as the intruder's eyes began to glow yellow, his canines suddenly growing longer. "You have caused my people a lot of grief." The vampire said. "Now you will tell me everything you know." Cancerman felt his sense of self fading as he gazed into the inhuman eyes of his interrogator. Mulder yawned as he walked into the X-files office. As he headed for his desk he noticed two packages sitting on his chair. Picking up the first package he noticed that the return address was in Quantico. Opening the package he began reading the first page. "Agent Mulder, "It has come to our attention that you have learned of the existence of Immortals and the Game. The Watcher who reported this to us, has also stated that you wish access to our files. Under normal circumstances we would not allow this. But because of you position in the Govt., it is imperative that we explain why you must not interfere with the Game. Enclosed you will find documentation that has been gathered by the Watchers over the years. You will also find an phone number that you can use to contact me personally. Gordon Wilder." Mulder put the package aside for the moment. Lifting the other package he couldn't find a return address. The package was simply labeled "Fox Mulder" Scully walked in to see her partner staring at a large envelope. "Something from the gunmen?" Mulder shook his head. "I have no idea, it was waiting for me when I arrived." Going though his desk drawer, he pulled out a small aerosol can. "What's that?" "Something Byer's gave me." Mulder answered. Scully watched as the envelope turned transparent wherever the spray touched. "Mulder, I don't believe this. What did you think, that it was going to do, blow up?" Mulder shrugged as he opened the envelope. "Considering the people we're up against Scully, I wouldn't have been surprised." Inside was another sheaf of papers. Mulder began reading them outloud. "Mulder and Scully, "First of all, you're offices aren't bugged. The Cancerman was quite forthcoming about the fact that Agent Mulder's routine security sweeps annoy him." "You sweep the office?" Scully interrupted Mulder's reading. "It seemed like a good idea." Mulder replied, then he continued reading. "According to your acquaintance, they didn't actually capture a vampire but they did get the blood of an unknown assailant that exhibited unnatural abilities. They used this blood as a template to create the Unholy Spirit. Apparently they believed that the assailant was a genetic experiment. During the first trials, the Unholy Spirit managed to escape. They have been actively hunting her ever since. You have aided us in averting a potential disaster to the community. For this you have our thanks. The Cancerman was also forthcoming about Names and Places that might be of interest to you. This is a portion of our thanks. Rest assured that he doesn't remember any of our conversation." Mulder looked through the remaining papers. "Scully look at this." Scully peered over Mulder's shoulder. "Names, Places and Dates. Mulder, with this information..." "We can keep one step ahead of them." Mulder gave Scully a wide smile. "We can shut them down." "The tides finally turning Mulder." Scully smiled back at him. The End OK folks, that's the end of this story. I'm not going to make any predictions on when the next one will be out or how long its going to be. I'm never right about tha
