This is a story based on characters created by J. Parriott and B. Cohen for the TV series Forever Knight. Yuletide Waves (1/1) by Carrie Krumtum "Salutations to you, children of the night. It is I, the Nightcrawler, broadcasting on the whim of air and sound. "It is the night of the Yuletide. It is Christmas or Christ's Mass. It is a night of some celebration ... for someone, out there. It is also a night lit by a perfectly full moon. A glorious night for all the denizens of the darkness. For it is in this light that the power of the sun is translated at it fullest. "And what do you see, children? What does the light of the moon show your eyes? "Do you wish to know what I see? It will surprise you, I think. "I see the heart of man, dark and cold, lifted by this light and this night in ways that seem almost mystical, magic. Do you see that man who greets his neighbor on this night when he would not do so on any other night of the year? Is it the light of the moon or the night that makes him do so? "I see the lonely included and the included grope in loneliness while surrounded by a crowd. I see the helpless helped by those with means who extend those means on this night while ignoring such need at all other times of the year. I see young look toward old and old toward young with mutual desire to understand and tolerate. For one night, on this night, man transcends the bounds of his mortality to see a glimpse of eternity. "What do you see? Can you see eternity from where you are? Does the light of the full moon beacon to you? Can't you feel the call of eternity on your heart? Does it mock your absent soul? "Perhaps not. Perhaps you seek to find the Yuletide in this night and forswear eternity. Perhaps you haven't looked at the moon at all. "Do so now, children. Look with me and see eternity in the light of the sun as it is given to us, the night dwellers. I would that you would dwell with me on this night. On this night we might even celebrate eternity ... together. "For, I am the Nightcrawler and I have celebrated you." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks bunches and heaps! -- Carrie http://members.aol.com/carrie400/index.html carriek@isat.com *or* Carrie400@aol.com
