Forever Knight
The Crusade to Save Forever Knight:
How It All Began, and What We've Done So Far

Toronto Skyline

On December 22, 1995, we learned that USA Networks had pulled their financial backing from the show Forever Knight without notice, effectively dooming it to cancellation.

As the grim news spread across the Internet and beyond, stunned fans rallied and united toward a common goal: to keep Forever Knight on the air.

The Friends of Forever Knight are not affiliated with any media or industry group. We are a cross-section of humanity: we are doctors and lawyers and supermarket cashiers, scientists and salespeople, college students and librarians, executives and secretaries, husbands and wives and parents. We are devoted fans of the show... and more importantly (to the television industry), we are consumers.

But of the thousands of fans who've come forward to lend their voices to our efforts...
we have not found a single registered Nielsen viewer in our ranks.

Not one.

We can only conclude, therefore, that our numbers are being vastly under-represented. And because of that error, the powers-that-be have cancelled a program that is not only quality television, but also a prudent business investment.

Particularly considering that with proper promotion, Forever Knight is capable of pulling extremely good ratings.
(Click here for representative November sweeps figures.)

In order to call attention to this mistake, we have raised over $10,000.00 for charity, and sent a 'commando team' to this year's NATPE convention in Las Vegas to distribute bags and brochures promoting our cause -- not to mention the thousands of letters and gifts that have been sent to the appropriate decision-makers at USA Networks, Columbia/TriStar, and the local stations airing the show in syndication, urging them to support a fourth season of Forever Knight.

During our conversations with TriStar's representatives, we were assured that they would "wait for the February sweeps" before making a final decision. They did not do so, and cancelled Forever Knight before the sweeps period.

A third-party buy-out attempt was made, by a corporate entity wishing to keep Forever Knight in production. According to industry sources, TriStar named an exorbitant price for the purchase. When the bidder remained interested, TriStar raised the asking price. The third party continued to bid, but TriStar kept upping the ante until the third party finally gave up.

Every attempt to keep Forever Knight on the air has met with determined resistance on the corporate level.

But we're still here.

After all, this isn't the first time that Forever Knight has been cancelled.
Following Letterman's move into FK's time slot at CBS, it took eighteen months to bring the show back for its second season.

At that time, we refused to allow a quality television program to die.

Our feelings on the matter have not changed since then.

And the plain fact is:
Forever Knight was not cancelled for lack of interest, or lack of ratings.
It was cancelled because TriStar does not want to continue production
- and refused to sell the property to one of the several parties who do.

In other words... they know perfectly well that we're out here; they simply don't care.

From a business standpoint, this seems rather counterproductive.
From a personal standpoint -- it just isn't right.

It is our intention to demonstrate to Sony, Columbia/TriStar and the other corporate entities involved that there is a market for Forever Knight: for its soundtrack CD, for the paperback novels currently in production, for reruns of the first and second-season episodes that many new fans have never seen, and most especially for new, first-run Forever Knight.

And that, despite their expectations and wishes,
we will not simply give up and go away.

This web page will continue to offer the latest news regarding developments in the show's future and official merchandising, as well as updates on the efforts to bring back Forever Knight. The web page, like the Friends of Forever Knight, will be here...
